Mark Evans mark@gedart.com Carthage Press, Carthage, Jasper, Missouri, November 1, 2003 Guy Myers, 83, Carthage, died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003 in Freeman West Hospital, Joplin. He was born May 7, 1920 in Purdy, Mo. to John B. Myers and Bertha Cook Myers. Mr. Myers attended school in Purdy, Mo., moving to Carthage in 1941. He married Helen Mae Wilson on January 3, 1949 in Bentonville, Ark. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a bed maker for Leggett and Platt, Inc. for 28 years, retiring in 1983. He was of Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife Helen, of the home; four sons, Jimmie Myers and wife Karen, Harrisonville, Mo. David Myers and wife Lisa, Carthage, Allen Myers, Carthage, and Guy L. Myers, Carthage; two daughters, Sandra Myers, Carthage, and Roberta Newberry and husband Ron, Rose Hill, Kan.; four grandchildren, Becky Leach, Travis Myers, Craig Myers, Stacy Myers; one great grandson Clayton Leach; one sister, Velma Donnel, Carthage. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Dorothy Sue Myers, five brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Ron Franklin will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carthage, Mo. Friends may call at the home of Allen Myers, 1955 Loveland Dr., Carthage. Memorial gifts may be made to the Children's Miracle Network in care of the Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Carthage Press, Carthage, Jasper, Missouri, November 1, 2003 Funeral services for Guy Myers, 83, Carthage, who died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Ron Franklin officiated. Granddaughter Stacy Myers read a poem about her grandfather. Recorded music titled "Daddy's Hands" by Holly Dunn, and "The Old Rugged Cross" by Jim Nabors was played. Cindy Huntley was the organist. Flower girls were granddaughters Stacy Myers and Becky Leach. Pallbearers were Allen Myers, Craig Myers, David Myers, Guy Myers, Travis Myers, and Ron Newberry. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Barksdale, Fred Campbell, Dale Lambeth, and the "C" Crew for the Carthage Fire Dept. Firefighters for the Carthage Fire Department and employees of McCune-Brooks Hospital were seated in groups. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carthage.
