    3. List Readers, Gayle Foster shared with us a very interesting Pea Ridge Graphic item about the Schell Family on Big Sugar Creek. I love stories like this. Even though the Schell family is thought of as a McDonald County family, I listed this item on the data index page under both Barry County Families and under Miscellaneous Items. A few of the Schells have lived and do live in Barry County because I went to school with a couple during my days at Southwest High.  http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/data/news/schell-BigSugarCreek.htm CC: Linda Garrett Linda, if you could type it up for us - we'd sure appreicate it. 3. In 1969, Joe C. Schell wrote a booklet that included some history of the Schell family as well as about the communities in McDonald Co., Mo. The booklet was titled, "Big Sugar Creek Country" and sold for $3. On page 6 of that booklet, "Henry Schell, Sr., was born February 15, 1810 in Lutesville, Mo. He came to Shell Knob in (he has Shell Knob in Stone Co., but it is in Barry Co., Mo) and married Elizabeth Yocum in 1834. Shell Knob was said to have received its name because he was one of the first settlers at this place. His wife was born February 6, 1819. To this union was born four children. While living at Shell Knob, Minerva, Nat, Fred and Henry Schell, Jr were born. He and his family came to McDonald County in 1845 and settled on Big Sugar Creek, near the mouth of Otter Creek, where he built a dam across Big Sugar and erected a mill................After coming to McDonald, his family increased by the addition of the following: Philip, Jacob, Mary, Anne, Lizzie, Cindy, Sarah and Jesse Schell, making a total of 12 children in all, six boys and six girls."
