    3. Part 1 - of 2 Thanks goes to Frank Hatton and Loyd Bishop for the new photos that they submitted. I have some more photos from another submitter that I will try and post later tonight.  I have several new things for you this evening - first I want to tell you about the Ray family. Loyd Bishop posted two great old photos. There are two in the Ray folder and 4 in the Friday folder. Great photos!!! I think that you will want to read these interesting notes that were posted with them, too. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/photos/photo-3/rayFamilyPhotos1.htm Here is what he wrote to me - My Direct Barry County Ancestors are my GGG Grand Parents John X, Ray and his wife Isabell Foster Ray; my GG Grand Parents George W. Ray and wife Elizabeth Russell, and their oldest daughter Mary Isabell Ray, my great grandmother, who married Franklin M. Porter of Lawrence County. Here are photos for the only two Barry County folks I have, Mary Isabell Ray and her sister, Elizabeth Ray Sherry.   I know the picture of Elizabeth was taken at the 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair, I'm not sure about the photo of Mary I., there is nothing on the matte to indicate it date. You may use them on your website. Mary I. Ray and her siblings were orphaned (See my bushwhacking story about George W. Ray on your website).   The orphans were apparently taken by Mary Phelps children's home, and later placed with area families. Of the eight Children of George W. and Elizabeth that have been found by this researcher to February 1992, only Mary I., Manda, William Levy, and Elizabeth had definitely been located.   James M. Ray lived with Mary I and Franklin Porter in 1880, but what happened to him after that is uncertain. Manda was living in Parker County, Texas in 1900, and it is not known when she died. Mary went to Oklahoma with her husband.   Elizabeth resided in Rico Colorado, and William Levy Ray lived in Arkansas, Kansas and in Indian Territory. Missouri is thought to be the Nancy Ray who married James T. Ashley in Greene County, Missouri, but this needs more research.   John W. was taken in by the Mayes family of , but after 1870 no record of him has been found, There is no record of Sarah other than the 1860 census. As for George W, wife Elizabeth and George's parents, John and I suspect they are buried at the Ray cemetery, but their graves with no markers have been long lost.   John homesteaded near Gadfly on the W1/4 of the NW1/4 Section 24, Range 28 West.   It is not known if the X in John X Ray was actually an initial; was his legal sign that was confused as his middle initial; or if it was a device he adopted to distinguish him from several other John Rays in the area.   The X was used in census and other documents. John and Isabel had nine children, and nearly all of them married and started families in Barry County.     Then we have some new Friday photos, too. They came in from Ray Friday and Frank Hatton. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/photos/photo-3/fridayFamilyPhotos1.htm The photos in regard to Raymond Joseph - Joe' Friday, and his family.   The first is a picture of Joe from the early 1950's, when he was station at Fort Eustis.   The second photo is of his grave in La Bernerie-en-Retz, France. The third is of his grave stone. Joe is the son of Bernard 'Barney' and Rose Ancevicz Friday. The parents are buried in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Bricefield / Pulaskaiifield, Barry County, Missouri.   The grave marker for Barney was paid for by his son, Raymond M. Friday.   Joe married Raymonde J. Matel, and they had two children. Raymond M. Friday, and Raymonde Rose Friday. The fourth picture is of their mother, Raymonde Friday, and her two children. The daughter goes by the name Rose. This son is a retired police officer from San Diego, California, and he retired as Sgt. Friday.   All of the pictures and information came from the family shown in the last picture, and they all live in Idaho. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/photos/photo-3/fridayFamilyPhotos1.htm Part 2 of today's new items will follow in another message.
