List Readers, have you ever found a surprise in the family tree files of Barry County residents? In the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep, I started rebuilding some web pages and looking around at some of the relationships of the area. That was when I made a interesting discovery. The Weathers family was living in Skelton Twp., of Warrick Co., IN, where my Simpson family lived before they came to Barry Co., MO, but that I already knew. What I didn't know is that Martha, James C. and Martha (Yarbough) Weathers not only married William Curry, who I assume was from Warrick Co., IN also. I wonder if he was related to the Simpson clan. Martha married James Pickney Stephens, the father of Thomas B. Stephens and the grandfather of Titus Stephens. She died in Texas, but James P. Stephens died in Sarcoxie and his death certificate lists that his mother as Martha Curry. I suppose all you Curry, Weathers and Stephens researchers already knew this and that I am a day late with the discovery but I thought I'd pass it along just in case it can be used by some of you. I would like to know if the Curry family is the same as the William Curry clan in Warrick County, IN. Titus Stephens' obit gives a different maiden name for his mother Hattie Jane. Titus "T. R." Stephens, 84, of Washburn, died March 27 at St. Mary Rogers Memorial Hospital in Rogers, Arkansas. Mr. Stephens was born December 11, 1915, in Washburn, the son of Thomas B. And Hattie J. Summers Stephens. He was a 1934 graduate of Washburn High School, worked on a railroad crew, operated Steve's Trading Post country store, and a farmer and a self-employed carpenter. -------Original Message------- From: Donna Cooper Date: 11/26/11 10:47:34 To: mobarry@rootsweb.com Subject: [MOBARRY] Stephens, Weathers, Curry, etc. List Readers, have you ever found a surprise in the family tree files Of Barry County residents? I am going off on a tangent of this subject, But my interest was piqued by the location of Cleburne, Johnson Co., TX. I know of the following men that have Barry County connections or with the First Arkansas Cavalry union that were also connected with Johnson County TX. Thomas J Depriest. b. 1843 Washington Co., AR d. 1911 Barry Co. served in Company F Fist AR CAV. and was in Johnson County, TX in 1873. George W Rogers b. 1841 AR was in Barry County in 1860 and 1870 and moved to Johnson Co. TX about 1876. served in Company G First Arkansas CAV. d. 1925 in Johnson Co. TX? Franklin M Rogers (a brother to George) was also in Johnson Co., TX and served in the same Company as his brother and then in the Spanish-American War and d.1927 and is buried in the Mikeman Cemetery in Barry Co. The 1890 schedule of veterans for Johnson Co., TX has the 2 Rogers brothers recorded on the same page along with a Isaac Miles also a veteran of the First Arkansas CAV. George W Rogers' daughter Salema Odelia Rogers married a first cousin of Thomas J Depriest a Chirstopher C Laramore in Johnson Co. TX. I am curious if anyone has people in their family tree of a similar nature.
