    1. [MOBARRY] Featured Photo and Notes

    3. Good Morning, from the old house project and slave quarters of Donna Cooper. Our featured photo for the week is of the Akin family. Amy LeWarne shared it with us. She doesn't have a lineup for the boys. I am hoping that someone out there can tell her which boy is which. Thanks, Amy. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/oddsnends/bryfams.htm The Akin family descends from Rev. G. B. and Mary Minerva (Burris) Hancock, [ my g. g. grandparents]. Amy is also a descendant of G.B.Hancock. G. B. had a brother at Newtonia who was a dentist named Martin Luther Hancock. To the Hancock family researchers we had DNA done to prove our line back to Virginia. Our Benjamin Hancock, Sr. was a brother to John D. Hancock of Goochland Co., Virginia. Goodspeed of Wilson Co., TN, the Barry County Corn family and G. B. Hancock's diary all report that he helped write the Declaration of Independence. I think that they lived near the Jefferson family. The Corn family of Seligman descends from John D. Hancock. Joel Chitwood family of Wheaton was married to Nancy Hancock. Nancy was a daughter of John D. and Elizabeth (Maddox) Hancock. The Littleberry Mason family of Cassville might have a connection to them too, I think. Some of their descendants will know more about that probably. Benjamin Hancock Sr.'s sister, Judith was married to Richard Wade.I don't know if they are related to the Barry County Wades or not. I never checked in on that. John D. and Benjamin's parents were Benjamin and Jane (Armager) Hancock. I am not sure about the spelling of Jane's name. DNA proves that the Wiley family buried in Marrs Hill is connected, too. They come down through John Hancock born 1743 with descendants of Guilford Co., NC. Odd that some of them are buried in the same cemetery as our G. B. is. The William Hancock who was killed at Bacon's Rebellion was the grandfather of our ancestor according to DNA. >From another researcher - William Hancock was hired by King James the 1st, to settle the town of New Bern in the new colonies. He was Staying at Thorpes house, when the area Indians massacred the whole settlement. His older son William came to take over the business, but died soon after going there, and that is when Simon Hancock, his son, came to the United States. This Hancock family descends from Thomas Hancock(e) who was born about 1525 in St. Mary Woolnot, London, London, England. One of his descendants, a William Hancock came to America in 1619. He was a member of The Virginia Company Of London which was created by King James I for the purpose of colonizing in America. The first settlement was established at Jamestown in 1607. As an investor in the Virginia Company, William traveled to Jamestown in 1619. He was a member of a group that founded Berkeley Hundred. On 22 March 1622 the settlement was attacked by Indians and William, along with many others, was massacred. Shortly after 1630, three of William's sons came to America. Augustine, Simon and William became prominent planters in Virginia and established families there that today include several thousand descendants. From Virginia, their descendants migrated throughout the southeastern and Midwestern states and today are living in all parts of the country. William Hancock's son John Hancock born 1670 and died 1732 in Surry, VA, married Jane Holt, daughter of Major Randall Holt and Elizabeth Hansford Wilson. John and Jane had William born about 1700, John 1702, Joseph 1704, Elizabeth 1706, Mary 1708, Duejates 1710 and Martha 1712. Oh, and before I go away - Judith who married William Clark - of the famed Lewis and Clark pair is a distant relative to the line, too. 3. I need clarification on this family which  is peripheral to some of my line.  Based on the posted statement, some of my data may not be accurate.  I'm relying on a research note posted on the Chitwood Cemetary listing  that Jesse CORN was married to Nancy Hancock and their daughter, Susanna Corn, was married to Joel Chitwood Jr. and another daughter, Nancy Corn, married to William Chitwood.  While not critical, I do like to have accurate information in my database.  My line intersects with children of Joel Chitwood, Jr. and Susanna Corn. ..."The Corn family of Seligman descends from John D. Hancock. Joel Chitwood family of Wheaton was married to Nancy Hancock. Nancy was a daughter of John D. and Elizabeth (Maddox) Hancock."... Any help would be appreciated. Ruth

    3. Ruth, I don't understand what is wrong - better draw me a picture, I guess. >From the web site - Joel Chitwood - Stone is broken at the date - Might read Nov 13, 1869. - He married Susannah Corn and Sarah Duncan. He was a son of Joel and Sarah (Cantrell) Chitwood. His wife Susannah Corn was buried in Nagle Bluff Cemetery, Franklin Co., TN. His wife Sarah Duncan was probably buried in Chitwood but has no stone. Susannah Corn was a daughter of Jesse and Nancy (Hancock) Corn and her sister Nancy married William Washington McCutcheon and William Chitwood.
