    3. Good Morning: I have some photos that Gary Ball restored to share with you. On these that he recently done I had to rebuild the pages, as I went. Those were done in the old way - in font coded pages and pretty much outdated. Anyway, it is not a problem - just takes a little more time. These two below are for the Robbins family. Norman Smith submitted them. I am pretty sure that we need an update address for Norman, so if any of you have that will you direct mail me with it? http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/photos/Robbins1893.htm And - http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/photos/Robbins1.htm A note to those who send messages without a subject line. Your mail will probably end up in the Spam box, because now days messages come in with high jacked addresses have a link and no subject line. So-ooo if you want your mail read, be sure and put a subject in the subject line. I have more photos to submit and some more of the restored ones to do also. I will work on them again later today, because right now, I have to help with our house construction. Be back in a few hours. Thanks, Gary, very nice work. Donna Cooper

    3. List Readers, well, this day has been interesting to say the least. Other than getting a huge electric bill, I have spent the day fixing old worn out font pages. While I was in most worse moment of despair, a fresh light of genealogy sunshine came sailing in my e-mail box. Gary Ball repaired those wonderful old photos and Barbara Revis, the submitter from 1999 updated her e-mail address. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/data/BGenIndex.htm Oops, I should have said, there are still two old font pages left, but I don't know what to do with them. I guess I'll think about them for a few days and maybe something will happen. I am hoping for a computer gremlin to come along and fix hem for me while I sleep tonight. lol. Thanks Barbara Revis and Gary Ball for your help on this project. Donna Cooper

    3. List Readers, good morning. I found a page on the web site that is sort of a mystery. I don't think it was linked to any other page, if it is I don't know where. It has some old photos attached to it that I don't think that I have seen. I don't know why it was put in the data folder since it is a photo page, but anyway I thought you might like to see it. It looks like most of the names are Beaty and that it is been on the site since 1999. The old Monett photos are interesting and have unique history about that area and the Beaty family. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/data/BGenIndex.htm Donna Cooper

    3. List readers, here at the home front we have been struggling with the heat and making progress on our construction. At night I have been doing web page work, cleaning up some old font pages and rebuilding some that were in bad shape. While stirring around in the e-mail box and looking at files I found some more photos to post. I do have some more photos on hands that I will try to get posted soon. Gary Ball sent us some restored photos and I posted part of his submission. Marie (Turner) Wilkinson was one of the ones Gary worked on - http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/photos/photo-3/wilkinson.turner.htm And then he worked on some of the Gurley ones, too, that I posted. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/photos/Gurley3.htm This one taken in 1907 is a wonderful photo and so much improved with Gary's work. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/photos/Gurleyl1907.htm The other Gurley pages I put in our new format since they were done ages ago in the old font format. Welcome to Barry County as a subscriber, one of our neighbors, Vicki Kizer the new coordinator for Lawrence County. She has added a lot of cemetery photos already. Try and stay cool. Donna Cooper

Remember to drink a lot of water if you are out in the heat and rest often in the shade if you are working in the sun. Heat exhaustion is serious and can be fatal. Our featured photo is a school picture that Janice (Patterson) Jones sent us. I love these old school pictures and so this one will stay lodged in my memory bank as a good one. Even though I don't see any of my people mentioned in the lineup, I think it is pretty unique. It is of the 1936 school group at Jacket, Pleasant View School. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/oddsnends/bryfams.htm These names below are the students - Front row - L-R Sylvia Gilland, Lena Gaye Carden, Dorothy Jewell Patterson, Wylene Patterson, C.L. Morgan, Aline Patterson, Ruth Pendergraft 2nd row - Eugene Patterson, Edward Stephens, Pal Pendergraft, Carrie Patterson, Ralph Stephens, Carlas Carden, Max Patterson, Glen Arnold 3rd row - Faye Vaughn, Freda Lou Pendergraft, Gusta Patterson, Alma Carden, Jewel Arnold, Vivian Arnold, Lola Yousey, Kathleen Patterson, Mildred Yousey, Teacher Monta Osborne Thanks so much, Janice, this one is a great treasure. In the 5 and 1/2 years that we have had a featured photo, over 400 people per week have viewed the photo we posted. I take it from that information that having a featured photo means a great deal to our viewers. So I just want to say thank you to all of you who have kept it going by sending us your photos. If we could find more school pictures it would be a good thing to do. I think that before long we'll reach a time when no one will know who is pictured in some of the ones that could be identified in this day and time. Follow me? 3. I count 11 people in back row plus the teacher, but there are only 10 names given plus teacher's name. I have seen Faye as a male first name, so I can't tell if the boy at the far left was named or just the 10 girls between him and the teacher. The other photos for "Jacket" have a problem with count of students in photos and count of names. Maybe some names unknown? 3. Ray has a memorial stone at King Cemetery. Inscription: "TM3 US NAVY WORLD WAR II PURPLE HEART" - This is a memorial stone, erected by his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Rose. Ray served in the Navy on a submarine and went down with his ship. He married Gusta Patterson, daughter of Charles Lewis Patterson and Anna Ella Pendergraft. They had one son, about a year old at the time. Gusta remarried and is buried in Joplin. - Another Photo - Inscription: "RAY DAVIDSON - USS GRAYBACK ON ETERNAL PATROL" -----Original Message----- From: Ruth Kent Sent: Sunday, July 31, 2011 2:53 PM To: mobarry@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MOBARRY] Featured Photo As a part of my extended Davidson family, Gusta Patterson was married to Marshall "Ray" Davidson who was lost at sea in the USS Grayback submarine in the East China Sea in February 1944. 1. [MOBARRY] Elvis Presley's Ancestor - Washburn Prairie Cemetery
    2. Donna Cooper
    3. List Readers, here is a great surprise for you. I know that several of you have probably heard that Elvis Presley's great grandfather was buried in Barry County as I have. When I posted Washburn Prairie I saw this stone and wondered if it was the one for his ancestor, but at that time I didn't have time to run down the details. When Phyllis was working Washburn Prairie, she stopped her work and took a little detour and found what we needed for our brag power. Roll down to Dunnin Presley and read. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/cemetery/washburnprairie/n-p.htm Wouldn't you think with all the money that the Presley family has that they would put up a nice memorial for his ancestor? Maybe they don't know where the grave is? Good job, Phyllis and thanks. I have also heard that Bill Clinton's Blythe ancestor lived in the county. Maybe someday we will run that clue down and see if it is a fact and if so uncover that connection, too. Donna Cooper
