Is this the James Hart with wife Margaret that had a son James and Jacob in Barry County? Warrick Co., IN. REV. JAMES HART, born in Owen Township, Warrick Co., Ind., April 27,1827, is one of thirteen children born to Rev. Henry and Margaret (St. Clair) Hart, who were natives respectively of Kentucky and this State. The father came to Indiana Territory in 1814, and made his home for many years in Warrick County, where he died May 3, 1860. He was one of those self-sacrificing men who left the comforts of civilization to preach the word of God in the unbroken wilds of the West, and for over half a century followed that calling. His widow died the spring of 1865. James Hart, subject of this sketch, has farmed almost his entire life, but at present is living retired and is occupying the pulpits at Shiloh and Fidelity Churches. In youth he secured such education as the common schools of that early day afforded, and for his first wife selected Sarah J. Bristow, who died December 24, 1865, after bearing five children, two sons and two daughters yet living. Mr. Hart enlisted, January 1, 1863, in Company D, One Hundred and Twentieth Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and on the company's organization was elected Second Lieutenant. As such he went to the front, participating in the battle of Resaca and the siege of Atlanta, besides several lesser engagements. While at Atlanta Mr. Hart was taken sick and sent to the hospital at Louisville, and shortly thereafter was detached to take charge of a veteran reserve corps, continuing until discharged in 1865 at Indianapolis. Returning home, he was wedded to Telitha St. Clair, on the 8th of March, 1865, and by her he is the father of two daughters. He is the owner of valuable property, is a member of the G. A. R., a Republican since 1861, and a Justice of the Peace since the spring of 1884.

Stan: I have recently been doing some detailed research on the children of my great, great grandfather, Isham Hall Williams. He was born in Virginia, but at a young age traveled to Missouri with his neighbors, the Hilton family. He owned land in Barry County, and appears in there in the 1860 census. Subsequent census records show him living just across the county line in Lawrence County. Three of his daughters have connections to Hill County. Hill County is one county south and east of Johnson County. The first was Mary Easter Williams who married John Benson Peters of Stone County. They had two children (one named Osa) and then went to Texas. In the 1880 census their neighbors are Marion Harbert and James M. Williams. James is a first cousin to Mary Peters. In 1870, all adult members of these households are found in Barry County. Mary Peters died in 1881. Later in 1881, another sister Sarah Angeline Williams Rhudyard married John Davis Dickson in Hill County. They are in Cleburn, Johnson County when two children are born in 1887 and 1889. A third Williams sister, Martha Catherine came to Hill County after 1880, perhaps to care for the children of her deceased sister. She married James M. Hodges there in 1883. Two Hilton families are also found in Hill County in 1880. Isham Williams rounded up wild mustang horses in Texas and took them back to Missouri where they were sold. It is believed that the Peters, Harbert and Williams families were there in connection with the round up activity. I am also curious about the connection. Larry Wilson
Mary Higgs age 103 passed away yesterday. visition will be at Fohn Funeral Home Monday eve and Funeral Services will be at Pierce City First Baptist Church at 11 am on Tuesday.
I am going off on a tangent of this subject, But my interest was piqued by the location of Cleburne, Johnson Co., TX. I know of the following men that have Barry County connections or with the First Arkansas Cavalry union that were also connected with Johnson County TX. Thomas J Depriest. b. 1843 Washington Co., AR d. 1911 Barry Co. served in Company F Fist AR CAV. and was in Johnson County, TX in 1873. George W Rogers b. 1841 AR was in Barry County in 1860 and 1870 and moved to Johnson Co. TX about 1876. served in Company G First Arkansas CAV. d. 1925 in Johnson Co. TX? Franklin M Rogers (a brother to George) was also in Johnson Co., TX and served in the same Company as his brother and then in the Spanish-American War and d.1927 and is buried in the Mikeman Cemetery in Barry Co. The 1890 schedule of veterans for Johnson Co., TX has the 2 Rogers brothers recorded on the same page along with a Isaac Miles also a veteran of the First Arkansas CAV. George W Rogers' daughter Salema Odelia Rogers married a first cousin of Thomas J Depriest a Chirstopher C Laramore in Johnson Co. TX. I am curious if anyone has people in their family tree of a similar nature. List Readers, our featured photo is of four children, a tintype that Connie Schmidt submitted back when we had our summer photo fest. It's a nice photo and too bad that we don't have names for these youngsters - 2 girls and 2 boys. I wonder about the year that this photo might have been taken. Some of you who are good at guessing by using the clothes and other important elements of the photo might give this one a whirl. Connie thought that they might be part of the Fare or Stockton family, but keep an open mind, because they could be from some other family. Take a look at your old photos and see if you have any for the sake of comparison. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/oddsnends/bryfams.htm Thanks, Connie for this nice old photo. The old house is getting closer to completion with every day that passes but we are still working on it. I hope by Christmas that I can move my makeshift kitchen out of the dinning room and cook dinner on a real stove in a nice new kitchen. Have a good Sunday and keep a lookout for Santa Claus. Donna: Is someone in your genealogy group an "expert" on the Polish families that lived in Capps Creek Township. I have the Pulaskiefield book, but I would like to have a contact person, if there is one, for other questions that I have. Thanks. Michele Rosewitz (Rosewicz)

Attention, Frances. I have e-mailed you but apparently nothing is getting through to you so I thought I'd try this. You computer is sending messages to the Barry County list mail by the bunches. I have deleted 15 or so and there are more in the holding box to delete. They are addressed to undisclosed receipts so the Roots service is holding them for inspection. I hope you haven't been high jacked. Donna Cooper

Just wanted to see if this works. Phyllis
Well , to add my opinion, is that this photo might go as early as WW1 up into the 1920's. The girls are wearing what was commonly called "Middy Blouses" a sort of take off of sailor clothing but made in a feminine fabrics and laces. The hair bows are of the type that would have been worn in the so called flapper era..... The girls of the turn of the last century wore big hair bows but they were usually worn at the base of the neck or even on top of the heard but not usually with head bands. the dresses are shorter but not as short as the flapper style. The fellows hats also look a little different than the wider brimmed hats of the turn of the century...Of course it is dangerous to try to guess from Men's clothes as their styles did not change as much as the ladies did! But in any case without knowing who these couples are and could place them in a time frame????? but I do love to guess? I wonder if they were from around Wheaton? Pioneer was so close and a popular picnic spot even in my day.
