Wanted to share some exciting news please read the email below. Perhaps you may want to help in this project as well. Thanks Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: Archives Volunteer Hello All, It's the start of a new year, and you know what that means-1961 death certificates are available!!! We've received them from the Bureau of Vital Records and are in the process of scanning them as I write this message. If all goes smoothly, we should be ready to start transcribing by January 17th. This year we will again be using the online application set up by our IT department, thus enabling individuals to view actual death certificate images. Participating volunteers will be asked to transcribe the required information from the images into an online form located directly below. This is set up as a double blind system, meaning each certificate will be transcribed at least twice to ensure accuracy. If the first two transcriptions match, the record will be approved. If not, the certificate image is transcribed by a third volunteer. If that transcription fails to match either the first or second, it will automatically be flagged for Archives' staff to review. If you participated in either the 1960 death certificate project last January, or the 1912 project in April, you DO NOT NEED TO REREGISTER. Your existing email and password will allow you to access the online application. However, if you did not participate in either of these projects, you will need to follow the below link to register. REGISTRATION LINK http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/evolunteers/EvolunteerRegister/Default.aspx When the certificates are scanned and placed online, I will send a message to the registered volunteers with a link to the login site. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Regards, Brian Rogers Research Analyst Missouri State Archives 600 W. You have done a marvelous job for the last 5 years. Thank you so much. Happy Birthday and have a great day. Your cousin, Joy -----Original Message----- From: mobarry-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mobarry-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Donna Cooper Sent: Thursday, January 12, 2012 12:23 PM To: mobarry@rootsweb.com Subject: [MOBARRY] Whee, Six Years! List Readers, six years ago a door opened for me that I only I could understand as one of the most important doors that has ever opened in my entire life. On January 12, 2006, I became the coordinator of the Barry County web site - a day I shall never forget. That day I spent twelve hours at the computer and had 198 e-mail messages that were straightly for the web site. For months, I worked twelve hours a day - every day! It was overwhelming! When I went to bed that first day, I wondered why I had agreed to take on something so time consuming. As a coordinator, I have helped you by organizing projects that I think are important to have on a genealogy web site. We have added cemetery stone photos, historical newspaper extracts, census, marriages, war pages, many miscellaneous projects, and thousands of old photos. When I open Picasa 3 it counts 144,667 photos on the Barry County web site, I imagine that is probably about ten thousand more than we really have since some are duplicates. Most of our family photos are historical - and only a handful was taken after the 1930's. I generally refuse photos taken after 1950 since that is getting out of the range for genealogy and historical days and more into the amusement or pleasure stage of family photos. We do have a Face Book page with many photos on it - but there, too, most date before 1930. The things that make Barry County tick are many, but mostly it is researchers who care deeply about genealogy - who take pride in who they descend from and how that they report their records. For a successful web site like this one, it takes a great deal of time to post and to keep up with things that need to be updated. At the present time, I am behind on posting cemetery updates, but those records will be there waiting for me when I can get to them. So don't stop posting them - keep on giving us your updates and feedback. We love it. For the first five years, I did not take any time to do my genealogy or any projects for myself. The past couple of years I have had the help of Phyllis Long and so I have taken some personal time to do some things that I enjoy - like traveling. Among all the things I have done - the projects that I have managed to do and with the time I have spent away from the web site and computer have been many. I dipped into remodeling, which has been the most time consuming of all things . Remodeling an old house built in 1896 is beyond whatever you might image that it is. It is a job and a half! Then in December, I did DNA and took time to study the results hoping to solve my Simpson mystery. I even took some time to do some fictional writing and sold a book. Many years ago, I published and so this wasn't a new adventure for me - just one I had put on hold and had in recess. I only wanted to say thanks for the great ride - for the friendship and support that you have given me for the past six years. I hope we will have many more good days and times to come. We still have a lot to do. With my birthday coming up tomorrow - right now, I am feeling pretty old. I think that 70 years old is probably too ancient to stand on a ladder and paint walls. So, I need to find the motor on my paint brush and finish what I have started. USGENWEB site making it easier for the rest of us to find info on our families w/o the traveling and digging that goes along with. Your website has evolved into a "Gold Mine" for many people. Happy Birthday Donna: Just wanted to take a minute to thank you for all you do. Hope your day is great. Sorry to hear that the weather up there is so lousy. I am here in Florida for the next two weeks.
