Hi Jay, Thank you so much for the email. This is not my 4th Gr.Grandmother Mary Baze, but this Mary Ann was her daughter in law. Mary Ann Coons was married to her son who was Abednego Peter Baze. Im sure there are lots of unmarked graves there, but i do assume that my Abednego and Mary are both buried there. Abednego died in 1866 and I do know she died before he did as he remarried a Sarah Pinkley in 1858. I also want to say, that the Barry Co. webpage is great and I Thank all of you for doing what you do. Your just doing a fantastic job. List Readers: Here is a link for a wonderful photo that Bob Parson and his cousin, Patty, submitted of some ladies in the Monett area. There is an arrow pointing to Jennie (Remes) Hink. The photo is in the possession of his cousin, Patty. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/Monett/monett.ladies.htm Bob said that Jennie (Remes) Hink who was married to Henry Hink, and that he was one of the fellows who helped Bob Burns assemble his first bazooka. They are the grandparents of cousin Patty who sent the picture to Bob. Bob also said: "My family connection is that my great grandparents, David D. and Amy Parsons, lived in Monett and are buried there, my grandparents, Jesse Gilbert Parsons and Hazel Dell (Hink) Parsons (from Ft. Smith, AR), lived there and their children (including my Dad) were born there." Thanks Bob and Patty for thinking of us and for the nice photo. Donna Cooper
List Readers: Paul Rutherford sent us a most interesting photo today and I have it on the web for you. It is of Henry Clay Smithey. For those of you who don't know about the Smithey name. Henry was married to Amanda Gowen and she died and was buried in King Cemetery. When Amanda was a little girl she lived in the Harbin - Gowen house where the stage coach stopped, which was near Rock Springs. I know we have some researchers out there who know a lot more about this than I do so maybe they will share some of the story with us, too. Paul did write a little more about Henry and what happened to him after he left Barry Co., MO, and I have that information posted with his photo. It adds to our list of pioneer settlers and I am very pleased to have it on the web site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/photos/photoalbum2/smithey.h.c.htm The posting work of Monett - IOOF continues. We have 737 photos posted on the Monett pages. 101 of those were sent to us by researchers. I posted 444 from photos that I took there and I've posted 293 from Jay Trace's BIG submission. For those of you who have not been following the Monett story, we have over 4000 photos on hands for Monett to post and the process has just begun. Our cemetery man, Jay Trace, so very generously shared these nice photos with us http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/monett/monett.htm My personal thanks tonight to Paul Rutherford and Jay Trace for their help with today's submissions. Oh, I forgot to mention in regards to the broken, sunken, or otherwise damaged gravestones at Osa, Ms. Smith is looking for help to try to get as many of them repaired by the Centennial as possible. The Cemetery Board has stated that they would welcome any repairs to be done, as long as family members paid for the repairs, no damage is done to the cemetery, and the Cemetery Board incurs NO COST. Contact Ms. Smith at redwriter64804@yahoo.com. jay trace __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Hi there, I thought I'd let you all know that there is an interesting article on the front page of the latest Aurora (MO) Advertiser about the Hilton Church and Cemetery at Osa, MO. We commonly refer to both as Osa. A lady named Mitzi Smith is currently compiling pictures, stories, biographies, etc. for a centennial history of the church, coming up in 2010. I had hoped that I could go to the newspaper's website and just send along a link to the story, but their site has half-stories, dating from May, and they add that if you want to read more, pick up the paper. (Thanks!) I don't know that we have permission to transcribe the article either. Ms. Smith is asking if anyone has anything they'd like to share, to contact her mother, Norma Smith, at (417)678-0910, or at her number, (417) 540-0737, or to e-mail her at redwriter64804@yahoo.com. It would be most helpful to put the word "Osa" in the subject line for any e-mail inquiries. She has some experience writing histories of various properties, personal histories, etc. and it is her wish to get as complete a story on the Hilton Church and Osa Cemetery as possible. It should make for a neat book when it's finished. jay trace __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! List Readers: We have more new things than you can share a stick at - that is if you are into stick shaking. If not - you might want to check out the listings given below. On the King Cemetery pages Beth Roller by the way of Darla Marbut brought to light that I had typed Max Rose's marriage date as 1954 and it was 1964. Also she added a note on Wenda Roller's data and caught another typo in the Arnhart names. So thanks to both of you for helping out on those. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/king/kings.htm On St. John's Cemetery - Newer One - Jay Trace added a new photo for Kaiser. Thanks for the new update, Jay. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/stjohns/stjohns.htm On the Mineral Springs Cemetery pages there was a post from someone who had the death place as Barry County, MO, but the obit revealed that he died in Springfield, MO. That one was for James William "Bill" Allison and I have corrected the data. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/mineralsprings/ms.htm On Jimmie Leatice (Davis) Gammon, the obit reads that she was a son - when she was a daughter. So our pages were corrected with the correct data. Monett - IOOF - is progressing pretty well. I have added 250 photos so far. Those are on the web and from Jay Trace's work. The folder I am working on now is the older section of the cemetery and has about 1000 photos in it. I have this project divided up into small goals. My first goal is to finish this older section, which is progressing on schedule. I estimated that there are somewhere around 5400 graves there and that there are a little over 4000 photos. There will be about one fourth of them with double stones so those numbers sound about right. Thanks so much, Jay, for all you do. This is a very nice collection of photos. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/monett/monett.htm Donna Cooper
I'm wondering if it isn't Rootsweb, several days this week I only received a couple of messages. Than I received a bunch and several were old. ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
List Readers: I don't know why it should take 4 or 5 hours - or more - for a message to be posted to our list mailing. I sent this message to you this morning at 8:30 and since it hasn't come through I'm thought that I should post it again. I suppose that after I send this then it will come through. But on the other hand - you probably would rather get two of it than none at all. I haven't figured out if this is my mail server or Roots who is holding messages so long. I had one that was held over 30 hours one time. Are any of you having a similar problem with your messages? -------------------------------------------- List Readers: The featured photo chosen for the coming week is one of Samuel Beaty sitting in a buggy. There are two other men in the buggy too, but no names were with the photo for them. It was taken in Monett and looks like this was photo was taken around 1900. I noticed some telegraph lines in the background so it may have been taken somewhere near the railroad. It has been on the web site a long time and was submitted by Barbara Rivas and now in the possession of the Monett Historical Society. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/oddsnends/bryfams.htm Please let us know, if you can add any thing more about this photo. List Readers: I have never tried this before but I thought it would be fun to do. I am going to call this "You pick the featured photo for next week". Submit your favorite photo THIS EVENING and tell me why you think it should be our featured photo for the coming week. It can be one that we already have on the web site or a new one. And - it can be one that was submitted by someone else. If it is on the web site already, just send the link and not the photo, but be sure and tell me why we need to feature it. I will post the one I choose from what you tell me later on tonight - sometime before midnight. And I will tell you about it early in the morning. Okay, as they say at the Olympics, let the games begin! -------------------------------------- By the way, I posted 50 new photos on the Monett IOOF pages today. If you are following that work you might want to check out those pages and see what s new. Donna Cooper
Good Afternoon: Today is another full day of posting and so all is well at the keyboard and with this lady. I have a lot of new things for you today. First, I must mention this about posting in the temporary folder. Please do not post data for cemeteries that we do not have listed on our cemetery pages. Recently I have found listings for people buried in Lawrence Newton and McDonald Counties on our temporary page. I also found a query about something and one living person who posted their e-mail address there. My eraser button works great! It also helps me a great deal when you use standard abbreviations and spelling. By some small chance that you don't know, we are using M/D/Y postings for dates on our cemetery pages. "Barry Co., MO" is the correct way to post the county and state name. If a period or a comma is required in your post, please don't be shy - use it. Okay - now for the good stuff! On the King Cemetery pages, I added the death certificate notes for Wayne and Frank Merriman. These boys were brothers and were killed in an auto accident in 1952. The accident happened near Cassville on Hwy 37. This tragic accident took two sons from the Merriman family. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/king/kings.htm Ruth Burch helped me out when she caught a typo on the death date for John Hancock. He died in 1984 - not 1884 as I typed. He was a cousin to my grandmother, so I can't believe that I didn't catch that one. Anyway, thanks Ruth, for your sharp eye and help. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/king/kings.htm On Larry Edwards' photo album I changed about 90 e-mail addresses for him. Also he has school photos listed in Long, Arnhart and Gunter Schools. So you should be able to access him by e-mail now. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/schoolbook/schoolbook.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/schoolbook/schoolbook2.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/photos/edwards/edwards.htm Our thanks to Jay Trace, who helped us out with a stone entry where a death date had been added. It was the Stever stone and so he sent us a new photo for it so you can see that on Purdy Cemetery pages. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/purdy/purdy.htm Jay Trace also helped out with Bethel Baptist when he sent us two new photos for stones there. They were for Ramsey and Henderson. Thanks, Jay, we are always glad to get the updates. They help a lot. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/bethelbaptist/bethel.htm On Mineral Springs Cemetery, Beverly Matthews sent some death certificate notes for the surname of Erwin. Thanks, Beverly, those help a lot. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/mineralsprings/ms.htm Then there was a puzzle on the Monett - IOOF - pages. It was for Valeda Taylor. Her obit had her parents with a surname of Taylor and her brothers with the surname of Scott and her husband as Troy Taylor. Wilma Fields helped us out on that one when she found the 1920 Wagoner Co., OK, census with the Scott family listed. That information was added with a note about the obit being in error. Thanks, Wilma, for your help. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/monett/monett.htm On Clark Cemetery, Beverly Painter added some notes for Catron and Woodward fromt he death certificate files. Thanks, Beverly, we are always glad to get documentation to add to our cemetery files. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/clark/clark.htm A big thanks to Linda Stephens McCormick who sent us a very nice old photo of James Albert and Brice Bryan Stephens. Brice was Albert's youngest son and Albert was the sheriff of Barry from 1896 to 1900. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/photos/photoalbum2/phs2.2.htm I moved some of the text items to another folder in the directory and so Linda Garrett burned some Internet time when she double checked all the text items in the school books to see if they were all opening okay. Thanks ever so much, Linda, you saved me a lot of time by helping out with this project. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/schoolbook/schoolbook.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/schoolbook/schoolbook2.htm And on the granddaddy of cemeteries - Monett IOOF - has a lot of new entries and photos today. If I add a few every day, one day they will all be done - or anyway, I think that is the way it works. This fine piece of work is that of our cemetery man, Jay Trace. A lot of people are going to find these records useful. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/monett/monett.htm With each one of these new things we added today, I think that we have helped stamp out the incorrectness that is sometimes added to Internet genealogy. Last night I was looking at a Barry County file that was posted somewhere on the web and saw that the researcher had four children born after the mother died. I felt my blood get a little warm as I thumbed through this person's work and noticed dozens of things that couldn't possibly be right. I told myself that maybe this lady was doing us all a favor by showing us how sloppy and bad research makes us all look and that maybe we should be more appreciative of those of you who work so hard to get and keep the record correct. So - with that I say thank you to Barry County researchers for all you do. Donna Cooper
Please excuse me as I am re-sending this post, since I am new to the List. I haven't seen it pop up yet this morning and want to make sure it gets through. I am trying to share entries from my grandfather, Otis Benjamin Howard's journal. The names (below) are just from the 4 additional entries I put online this morning. There are other names in the journal entries already posted at the blog. I am trying to type and display a few at a time. I know that like myself, there are many of you who have common ancestors within several neighboring southwest Missouri counties. I just thought there might be an interest. Thank you for you time! Good Morning! I've added 4 more entries from Otis Benjamin Howard's journal at my blog. The dates are Dec.7, 1944 Dec. 14, 1944 Dec.21, 1944 October 25, 1945 These are typed 'as is' without grammatical/spelling corrections. Hi, List Readers: More going on here at this work house - Here is more updated files for you this morning. Carrie Searcy sent notes for Frederick Darrell Cargile, Frank Cargile, Wilma Cargile and Early Cargile for King Cemetery. Those came to us by way of Darla Marbut. So thanks to both of you for helping out on that data and information. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/king/kings.htm And our thanks to Deena Mault who sent us a note on the infant named Fields, a son, His name was Jackie Fields and he was a son of Milo and Nola Olive (Baldwin) Fields. This one was buried in Clay Hill Cemetery. She added the name and parents of the infant. The information came from her mother who was a sister to the child. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/clayhill/clayhill.htm In Arnhart Cemetery there were several changes this morning. Darla Marbut sent us a more readable stone photo for Mary Ann Whittington and so I posted that and we are glad to get it since the one we had was not very clear. Also Darla's notes were added, too. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/arnhart/arnhart.htm In Arnhart Cemetery, death certificate information was added for Robert S. Terry, he was posted with a 1928 death date. His death certificate reads that he died March 9, 1926. Until we see the stone photo on that one we won t know if it has the wrong year posted or Keith Owens read it incorrectly. The note was added to the information so that will help some one to know the date that he died. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/arnhart/arnhart.htm On death certificates, the death date is usually always correct, because the doctor or coroner usually filled it out and filed it the state. But on the other hand, the birth dates are often reported incorrectly so those must be watched carefully. On Raymond Terry, his birth date is listed as 1911 and the death certificate reads that he was born 1907. The age that he was listed, calculates out for the 1907 date to be the correct one. That note was added to the data we already had posted. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/arnhart/arnhart.htm Our thanks to Jay Trace who sent us entries for Jesse Thomas Barrett and Allen Baker from the King Funeral Home Records. Those two new entires were added to the Arnhart Cemetery pages. Thanks, Jay, for all you do. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/arnhart/arnhart.htm Beverly Matthews sent us some notes for Elizabeth "Betsy" Anne (Catron) Erwin, Samuel E. Erwin, and she added William P. Erwin to the Truelove Cemetery pages. Thanks so much, Beverly, we are glad to get these notes and also the new entry, too. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/truelove/truelove.htm Do we have any Riddle researchers who might know about the Dake families prior to 1800? If so, please drop me a note at my personal address that is given at the bottom. Donna Cooper
Hi Linda Ruth, I think I'm your second cousin. My gg-grandfather was Peter Jackson Stephens, father of James Albert Stephens, who was father of Pharis Jackson Stephens (your grandfather) and Maude Alice Stephens (my grandmother), if I'm not mistaken. I may have met you at one time or another, because I know my grandmother talked about Pharis--I do remember the unusual name. Thanks a bunch, Phyllis. We are glad to get the clarification and to know how it goes. Checking my database, I apologize, made a BIG mistake. I had: Erwin, Vernon Edward Born: September 26, 1883 in Grayson County, Texas Died: 1959 in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas Occupation: Married: Keziah Tyler Buckanon on September 26, 1906 in Pottsboro, Grayson County, Texas (born March 22, 1886 in Owensboro, Kentucky) Mother: Ettie Idice Emery Father: Isaac Crumley Erwin [1] Corrected listing should read: Erwin, Vern D. Born: 1883 Died: 1973 (buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter, Missouri) Occupation: Married: Children: Mother: Sephronia (Fronia or Frona) Stephens Father: William Steward Erwin (Parents also buried at Maplewood.)
