    3. Bill: I bet your right on those names being included. I sure wish we had some photos on some of these families so that we could compare faces to this photo. Do we have any body out there in cyber land who can help us out on this? Any of you have Eagle, Estes, Kennedy, Pannell, Zinn or Fly photos to share with us? I hope someone can identify more of the students. According to Barry County Maps of Schools and Cemeteries by Shirley Clevenger, they look very close. If you check the 1909 Atlas, Twp 25N, Range 26 W, a church and cemetery are shown side-by-side in the Northeast corner of section 8. I suspect the names include Eagle, Estes and Kennedy, families that came to Barry County from Arkansas along with one or two members of the Fly family. There may be some Pannell and Zinn names. A 1941~ photo of that school was published in an Ancestors Unlimited. The enrollment had fallen off considerably. Several Kennedy boys are pictured. 3. Oops - Clarence Laney was his name not Clayton. Sorry. Donna -------Original Message------- From: mobarry@rootsweb.com Date: Sunday, December 02, 2007 11:49:31 AM To: mobarry@rootsweb.com Subject: [MOBARRY] Featured Photo List Readers: Thanks to Bill Landers and to Jay Trace for their added comments. The information about the location really helps a lot. Look at the Bethel School photo and the little girl who is 2nd from the right on the front row, I think she is Mabel Lee's little sister who married Clayton Laney. Her name was Unabell. She was born about 1907 and looks like she is about 6 or 7 years old here. If that is her, this would date the photo about 1914 or 1915, I think. Do we have any descendants from Clayton and Unabell who might know? Also on the 1920 census there was another daughter in that family named Iola K. who was born about 1909 and she could be the one 3rd from the right on the first row. I don't know who she married, but I bet Judy Corcoran probably knows. She looks a lot like Mabel and so I'd say she is one of the Lee girls. And also, do any of you have a photo of the school building? We sure could use one on the web site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/oddsnends/bryfams.htm Donna Cooper Please tell us about your Barry county ancestors. 3. Good Morning: The featured photo for the coming week is one of Bethel School Judy Corcoran shared it with us and the only person she knows who is pictured in it is her grandmother, Mabel Lee. You can sure see Mabel's Indian heritage coming through in this photo. It is a nice clear photo, and might have been taken about 1912 or 1914. I hope that by featuring it that some of you will find people in it that you will know or maybe even faces that go with grand parents. I wonder if Bethel School wasn't close to where Bethel Cemetery is today. Any of you know for sure where it was located? My Grandma Haddock, who was nee Addington, went to school there but she was out of school long before this photo was taken. There is a Bethel school photo with her pictured in it that was taken about 1902 or so but I can't seem to find anybody who has a copy of it. Here is the link. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/oddsnends/bryfams.htm Thanks Judy for sharing this nice piece of school history with us. Donna Cooper

    3. Up until he passed away recently, I was pretty good friends with Doyle Davis, who used to be a caretaker of Bethel Baptist Cemetery and a former student at Bethel School. He told me that, as you turn south off of BB Highway towards the church and cemetery, there is a white house on the left side. That is the old school building, built on and changed to what now is a residence. The building after this house is the church and the graveyard is across the street. jay --- Donna Cooper <saarisr@sbcglobal.net> wrote: > Good Morning: The featured photo for the coming week > is one of Bethel School > Judy Corcoran shared it with us and the only person > she knows who is > pictured in it is her grandmother, Mabel Lee. 3. List Readers: Here is a list of some new items that I added earlier today. For Rocky Comfort a new Decker name that I added. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/rockycomfort/rockycomfort.htm Hobbs was added to Oak Ridge Cemetery. We still don't have near all the ones who are buried there. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/oakridge/oakridge.htm At Mars Hill Cemetery, I added a recent burial for Brown. There might have been another one, too, so you might want to take a look if you are interested in that cemetery. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/marshill/marshill.htm Maplewood Cemetery had several entries, which, in most cases, were added notes to what we already had posted. Van Dorn, Erwin, Sallee, Cole, Overton, McGlothlin, German, Still, Elliott, Martinez, Rider, Noble, and Brown. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/maplewood/maplewood.htm LoVella Moore asked some people if they knew anything about the Purdy house that Linda McCormick posted last week. One of the people LoVella talked to thought that it might have been the Freeze house. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/purdy/index.htm Our thanks today to Phyllis Long, Beverly Matthews and LoVella Moore for their help on our new items. 3. List Readers: Today my Santa duties got in the way of my posting duties but I have a few things for you. Brenda Baughman sent us a note on her Turner family at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/mtpleasant/mtpleasant.htm Alice Allen forgot band member no. 13 and so she added that name to the 1919 Pioneer Band listing. He was Ed Allen. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/pioneer/index.htm And on Lake Park Cemetery, our thanks to Jay Trace who sent us a photo for Jones and one for Surfus. Those were recent stone entries and graves there. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/lakepark/lakepark1.htm Our thanks to Phyllis Long who added a Wilderbuer name to the Oak Ridge listing we have been building. That one came from an obit in the Advertiser. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/oakridge/oakridge.htm And at Rocky Comfort our thanks to Ruth Kent who added a note on the Davidson family from a death certificate. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/rockycomfort/rockycomfort.htm If you want to know where a certain hollow is in Barry County you might try viewing the country through Google Earth. I noticed a lot of them are still marked just the same as they were during the days of the our old newspapers. Most of you probably already know that on some of the cemeteries you can see little specks that are the stones and even hay bales and ponds are visitable from the satellite. That is a free program and one pretty handy for genealogy users who want to understand the area and where the cemeteries are situation in relation to other things. I always think that one of these days I will see one of our volunteers parked at one of our Barry County cemeteries - but guess that would be about normal. Have a good evening. Donna Cooper

    3. The dates on the stone, as well as the name don't quite match up with the deat certificate, so the mystery remains. 3. List Readers: It has been busy here with a lot of this and that going on. And a big thanks to Judy Corcoran who sent us a Bethel School photo. This is a nice clear photo and is in good shape, too. Her grandmother, Mabel Lee, who married Lawrence Haddock is pictured in the photo. I bet some of you will find people in this one that you recognize, too. If so, please let us know. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/schoolbook/bethel.school.htm Our thanks to Darla Marbut who added a cemetery photo for Munsey for Lawrence Priest a few days ago. I don't know if I told you about this one or not. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/munsey/munsey.htm Our thanks to Bill Sanders who sent us a photo for Vineyard for the Sanders surname. Darla said it must have been one she missed when she did the photos for that cemetery. Anyway - we have it now. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/vineyard/vineyard.htm Bill Landers sent us a note on Gowen family that I added to the Harbin page. Thanks, Bill. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/rocksprings/harbin.htm Frances Albert sent us a correction to the Purdy 1894 school photo and I have that information corrected. This is really a nice photo. I see some faces in that one that I've seen before, but I can't seem to put names with them - anyway not just yet. I worked on the page so you can see the faces better. Let me know if you see people you know. Thanks for all you do, Frances. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/schoolbook/schools/1894.purdy.htm The biggest surprise of all is a photo one from Judy Corcoran who sent us of Charles Haddock, Sr. It is a tin type, badly damaged, but the image can still be seen. This photo was probably taken not long before Charles died in 1859. I heard about this photo many years ago but didn't know who had it or if it was still in existence or not. The story I heard was that Charles wanted to have his picture taken with his metals before he died. The tin type photo came into being around 1856 and he died in 1859 so this really dates the photo for us. This is a family treasure - one we are glad to see. Thanks so very much, Judy, for sharing with us. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/photos/photoalbum2/haddock.ch1.htm I added several new photos to the photo book - most were for the Long and Haddock family, but there were a few others, too. In the last couple of days I added over 50 new photos, so you might want to take a look and see if there is anything there that interest you. Also there were some from Judy Corcoran and from her submissions. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/photos/photoalbum2/phs2.1.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/photos/photoalbum2/phs2.2.htm We have confirmations on the Pioneer Canning Photo names that I have posted so I thought you'd like to know about that. My grandparents on the Haddock side are pictured in this photo, Sam and Gertie (Addington) Haddock. This photo was taken in 1923 or 1924 - and I really think probably 1924. Alice Allen submitted the photo a few days ago and you can see it at this link. If you see anyone you recognize, please let me know. The older man on the right with the overalls on might be from the Wood family. Anyone know? http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/pioneer/canning.factory.htm Donna Cooper
