Donna, I checked back through my notes. I had in notes for Elijah that 1879 was given on his WW I Draft Registration but the year 1878 was given on his death certificate and tombstone. My guess is 1878 is correct - with the time of year census was usually taken and a November birthday. Hi, I'm researching the Bayless family in Barry Co. I did find an obit on Daniel D Bayless, but it does not mention his father by name. He died 26 March 1893, however he had been in the mercantile business and a stockholder and director in the Barry County Bank from 1886 til? He was also a member of the Baptist Church for nearly 50 years. If anyone has more information on his history (particularly his parents) I would appreciate hearing from you. If there has been a town history made, there may be mention of him and his family. Thank you, Phyllis Thomas
A while back someone was asking about the MANNINGS'. I have just found some information on Joesph Manning born 1793 in East TEnnessee, the son of Job Manning and Elizabeth ???? I also have his children with some dates and who they married. If you are interested, feel free to E-mail me. Darla answered me privately, and her information coincided with what I have, But now,I am really getting more confused. Now I find a dc for Edith Marbut, widowed , dated Dec. 17, 1954, died, Monett. Husband's name, Ira Marbut. She was a daughter of John Jacques & Mary Beasley, and is buried at Monett IOOF. Jane Marbut of Monett was the informant. On the 1920 census is Ira and Sarah with their children, but on 1930, Ira is widowed. So, it looks as if I will have to wait for the 1944 dc's to see who the Sarah Marbut is that died in Barry Co. in Dec. 1944. The other Sarah that died in 1913, was a White, not a Roller, so---the mystery continues. Wilma
I just recently took on the task of administering 3 Arkansas county web-sites for the arkansasgravestones.org project, so my brain is mush at the moment. So, please excuse if the following is muddled--matches my brain today -LOL! I was just looking at the Mo. death cert. for Ira Madison (Masterson?) Marbut, born Feb. 8, 1873, Barry Co. MO; died Sept. 7, 1939, Kings Prairie, Barry Co. MO., son of "Wash" (George Washington) & "Armelia" (Permelia Rowena) Fly Marbut. At the time of his death, his wife was Edith. Informant, Brit Marbut of Purdy ( listed as a brother on Lena Coones' obit). He was buried at Arnhart Cemetery, according to the d.c., but he is not listed there. However, according to the obit of Lena Emma Marbut Coones, her mother was Sarah Jane Roller (who died in Dec. 1944, after the death of Ira ( if this is the right Sarah Marbut on the Mo DC Database. The other Sarah was a White that died in 1913 and was widowed at the time of her death) and Lena was born 1905. So, I guess I'm wanting to make sure my head is clear (lol), as there has to be an explanation, and all I can think of is a divorce. So---would some of you Marbut experts , make sure I'm on the right thinking pattern at this point, and if not, set me straight? Thank you. Oh, and what was Edith's maiden name if you know! Wilma
Good Morning: The MO Gen Web site is going to have a page called something like "MO Heroes". It will be a page where the county web sites can honor their volunteers. I have been told that we can add our volunteers. All I have to do is send a written page and photo to the administrator about the Barry County helper that I want added. For instance, and as you know, there are a lot of the people we have who have helped transcribe and photograph cemeteries and several who have worked on the restortation of cemeteries. We have folks who have dug up stones and repaired them. And we have people who have taken thousands of cemetery photos. Some folks have helped transcribe census and other documents such as marriages. We have some who have sent us a lot of historical photos and done a lot of other things, too. And also we have some who have worked with the obits and put in hours on end on those. We have had transcribers and proof readers and those who have gathered and transcribed. I want to submit something about each of our volunteers and tell what they have done to help out, but I will need your help to do this. So if you have volunteered on a project or helped out with the Barry County web site in some way, please send me a typed page in Note Pad or Word telling about the projects that you worked on and what you enjoyed about the work you did. You can also mention something about what motivated you to be a worker. And also please send separately - and not in the Word or Note Pad - a photo of yourself. If you have questions - just drop me a note, my address is at the bottom of the page. Donna Cooper

Yeah, I guess you have to write a note. I was just thinking that since we have so many people who work so hard that they should be recognized for all they do. We really do have a lot of heroes in our county. I bet Jay Trace has taken 15,000 cemetery photos because there were 5,000 in the Monett file that he submitted. And look at the dozens of others - and all that they for us. It is amazing. Good Evening: I have a few things for your this evening. Frank Hatton says he will do look ups from his Plaskifield book. So if you are interested in that you can drop him a note. I have his address posted on that page. He will be adding the author name and copyright date soon to that information that I already have posted. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/lookups/lookups.htm At Purdy Cemetery, our thanks to Jay trace who sent us a photo for the surname of Urbana. This follow died in 2006 but they are just now getting his stone set. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/purdy/purdy.htm At Oak Ridge Cemetery two new entries were added for Laney from death certificates. We still don't near have all the names of those who are buried there. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/oakridge/oakridge.htm On our Waldensian Cemetery listing I added 4 photos that came in from Jay Trace. Thanks so much, Jay, we are very glad to get the updated ones, too. It keeps the page more interesting to know that the recent ones have been added. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/waldensian/waldensian.htm Our thanks to Bill Sanders who sent us a couple more photos on the Sanders name at Vineyard. I posted one for him yesterday so now we have 3 that I added. Those were missed somehow or another when the transcription work was done. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/vineyard/vineyard.htm At Hilton, Diana Cope sent me a hand transcription on a stone that she couldn't get to photograph very well. It was for Elizabeth (Thompson) Hilton Thanks a lot for this information, Diana. I think the death certificate had different dates so it is really good to get this information added to our files. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/cemetery/hilton/hilton.htm I added a page in the maps section that is satellite views listed that also has all the GPS coordinates. When you type in the GPS locaters you can go right to the spot so that really helps when you want to find a cemetery in our county. More than likely the Barry County cemetery name won't be listed - but with the coordinates it will take you right to the spot. In case you have not tried to do that and maybe wondered how, we have those numbers for you - posted on our cemetery index pages. Just look up the cemetery name and it will have the GPS listing on the right column. Here is a link with some of those listings including some of the old one room school locations. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/Maps/index.htm I am going to start posting obits that I have on file in the next few days and see if I can get caught up in that department so that I can continue working on IOOF at Monett. If you have some that you have been holding or have some you want to type and submit, please try and send them in the next two or three days. Our thanks to Jay Trace, Diana Cope, Frank Hatton and Bill Sanders for their help with today's new items. Donna Cooper
The school photo I recalled was on page 84 in the November1998 issue of Ancestors Unlimited. It states: Bethel School was located southeast of Monett in Northern Barry County. The first school house was a small frame building with few conveniences. In later years a new building was built one-fourth mile to the west of the old building. This building is still standing and as been converted into a home. The picture below was taking during the 1942-43 term. Miss Jerry Jenkins was the teacher. Since there are only nine students, I'll list their names: Kennedy boys- Kenneth, Gerald, Johnny and Dale Charles Ericson and Ted Davis The girls: Norma Negre, Virginia Inman and Dean Kennedy. Thanks, Bill. There is a school photo of students that was taken about 1900 that may have been in one of the Ancestry issues. I don't know how old the school was but it dates back to the 1800's, I am pretty sure. I wish we had the history of it because I think it is probably one of the oldest schools that the county had. If we could find out who the owner of this photo is, maybe we could get a copy of the photo or find out if Fields' has a negative for it. I am especially interested in it, because my grandmother Gertrude Addington and her sisters Lottie and Myrtle are in this one. I also see some of your Kennedy names mentioned. I thought maybe some of you might know who owns this photo and have contact with that person.
