Dear Tom & list, I'm happy to report that the death certificate poor farm project is well underway. Only 1936 is unspoken for. Some folks still might be weeding through the year or years they signed up for. Again, I'd like to thank you all for your hard work. What a team! I'd also like to recognize Gayle Wilcox who jumped in there to help, after I rattled off all of the names of you helpers out there. Consider this an e-pat-on-the-back! jay --- Tom Putman <ethan@cableone.net> wrote: > Are you up and adam yet?Jack said you were a night > owl.Just checking to see > where we stand. If know one has done anymore we still > lack 1935 right?Let me > know.Thank you. > > ____________________________________________________________________________________ You rock. Deb, Someone else mentioned that there is a paragraph on the C & E Railroad in Emory Melton's book _/The First 150 Years in Cassville./_ I looked through Thad Carter's book, _/Tracking the Past /_and did see mention of Bert Anderson as one of the first employees (along with John Beatty and Barney Bush). Not sure where to find more information on Hand and Vera Bradshaw, but I'll ask around. Cherry Bailey Barry County Museum > I have come across an older looking magazine article amongst some other things in a deceased relative's scrapbook. The title of the article is "The Ozarks Little Sparkler" and it is about "the shortest standard-guage railroad in the world" which ran out of Casssville and went to Exeter and back. I haven't even read the whole thing yet but there is no date on it. The writers were apparently Hank and Vera Bradshaw. A man by the name of Burt Anderson is mentioned in it and is the engineer. Says he started with the C&E in 1908. Does anyone know anything about the two people who wrote the article that would help me figure out when it was written? I've Googled it and can't come up with a date for the article or the people either. > > Thanks, > Deb (SHIPMAN) ROWE > > > > Please tell us about your Barry County ancestors. Dear Stefanie, So glad Osa is finished and thanks for all you do. Many of us use the Barry Co Cemetery information. Also, appreciate you taking care of the posted death certificates. As I read the old newspapers and I find one not in the obituaries I use the form to post them. Others have worked doing the same so we're getting a good collection. While I'm doing that I also check the cemetery mentioned to be sure they are listed in that cemetery. In the old days so many just had field stones so I'm delighted when I find information for them in the newspapers. Link to Newspapers: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~haddockfamily/barrymo.htm Also, it is so wonderful everyone searching the Death Certificates for those buried in the Poor Farm Cemetery. Link for Death Certificates: http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/ Everyone is being so helpful and I know Donna will appreciate your efforts when she gets back on line. Note: forwarded message attached. Dear Death Certificate hounds-- Looks like 1932 is back in play. Nora Eden is using an Italian computer that doesn't speak English. So, that leaves 1932, 1936, 1937, and 1939. Deb, Have you tried contacting Gloria Bogart Carter? At one time she had a special column in the Springfield News-Leader strictly for genealogy and even answered genealogical questions. She might have some info on this. I believe the website is: http://www.news-leader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/frontpage You might be able to contact her with your questions. Or you may want to contact Cherry Bailey cherry@barrycomuseum.org she is the contact person at the Barry County Museum, she might be able to shed some light on this subject. Good luck. 1950 is completed, nothing found. Frances
Jay, Judy, Piecing together what others have posted and a little of my own snooping, it appears George Lamphear stabbed his 23 year-old wife Reba to death with a pocket knife in Newton County on July 21, 1935. She was apparently removed to Lowell Kansas for burial. I missed the on-line death cert. for George (d. 1945) another lister mentioned, but see his parents, Barry County residents Chancy and Mintie Lamphear, would join thir son in Muncie Cemetery on their deaths in 1951 and 1954. Tombstone shots for George & parents are on the Muncie pages at the MOBarry site: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/cemetery/munciechapel/mc-3.htm and death cert's for Reba and Joe's parents are among the 11 'hits' when you search "Lamphear" on the Missouri Archives site: http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/ There's also a Geo.
