If as one person said, Hiram Leath was killed while returning from the war, then the likely date would be 1863, because by 1866 there were very few people still out in the field.
Could the number on #17 be moved a little so his face is more visible, please?

Jack The ladies that surveyed Osa in 1982 for the Joan Kunkle books recorded: LEATH, Hiram Oct 15, 1831 - Mar 4, 1863 Bill In a message dated 7/27/2010 11:41:28 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: I am currently in the process of repairing the headstone for Hiram Leath. Hiram's stone was found broken in the Osa Cemetery recently (not from vandalism but just from deterioration). The date of death is no longer legible as the latest break in the stone went through the worn and faded date. MOBARRY lists the date of death as 4 Mar 1863, however further research on the web turns up a date of 4 March 1866 with one story stating he was killed while returning from the war. One way to disprove the 1863 date is a check of his muster rolls from the FOOTNOTE website should any of you subscribe to that service. I would be very grateful to anyone you might be able to provide the correct date so I can be assured that the information going on the stone is correct. List Readers, this page was put together from photos that have been submitted to the Barry County web site. A lot of these fellows served in the the Mexican War, the Civil War and in WW I. Just for fun see how man you can identify. I should have numbered them so we could talk about them. Maybe someone out there will have time to do that for us - hope so anyway. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/photos/photo-3/menBarry.htm Donna Cooper

List Readers, here are the updated cemetery photos that Jack Fly sent us for Viney Creek. Gary Roberts, Shirley A. Miller, Margaret E. (Lowe) Arnold, Arthur Jack Arnold, Alma Bruton, wooden cross marker, Donald Knox Goshay, Ruth J. Whitsett, no dates, Sarah Lynn Patterson. Annie L. Bruton, temp. marker - can't read - the paper is faded from the weather. If any of you can read this one, please let us know. Can say that it reads Annie L. (Ellis) (Waters) Bruton. Ansel Hutchson - we had a double stone to link up - and listed his WW II military inscription. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/cemetery/viney/viney.htm Thanks, Jack, for all you do. We really appreciate it. Donna Cooper
Yes, that's correct. There were several children & I think I have some data on all of them. These Potts & Fletchers are descendants of 2 different branches of my family. Now I just found that those 2 branches intermarried confirming my guess that if I search long enough, I might be tied into every family in Barry Co. & Benton Co. Thanks for your help. William, son of William and Alice (Banks) Potts, had a daughter named Cora P. Potts who married Earl Mahurin. And another of William's daughters, Margaret, married A. D. Hix, but I don't have dates. And Donna, another daughter - was born Feb 10, 1886 in Barry County and died Feb 04, 1961 in Monett, and she might not have married - not sure.
