List Readers, this message came in as a forward from Cheryl - for the marriages but has a notice about a reunion in the text. And so I thought you might be interested in knowing about it. Notice in the message that Jean is telling us also about the 12 Pioneer Families and when they meet and I thought you might like to know about the reunion. Here is a snip from her message - "I visit Barry, Newton, Lawrence County every 3d Sunday September for the 12 Pioneer Families Reunion held in Monett City Park (in Barry County!). Of the early 1840's Barry County Marriages, there are a couple that apply to our Reunion group of Pioneers: Boucher, Cagle, Spilman, Wormington, Pruitt come to mind off the top of my head." "12 Pioneer Families' Reunion - 3d Sunday September 2010, Monett City Park Casino - Bring a covered dish and come join us!" Jean and Cheryl, I will have to look at the original records to see if how these names are spelled before I make any changes. Listings in a book are not what we go by. I will pull the records on Ancestry and see how the name Withers is spelled there. I didn't see but the one name that was questioned but the message reads that there are two. I couldn't seem to pick out the other name from the text that was sent. Is the surname Moseley one that is questioned? I need to know so that I can pull the marriage record and look at the spelling. List Readers, I thought some of you might use the information that Lou Dyer sent me on the Thompson family. I am pretty sure, from reading the old newspapers that we have on line, that there were several families from Barry county that went to these areas in OK and NM. CC: Lou, thanks, I am going to send this to the list mail folks and see if any of them are researching this family. If you hear from someone that you don't know - could be from that resource. WESTON REUNION SEPTEMBER 12, 2010 The 75th WESTON family reunion is to be held 12 September 2010 At Twin Bridges State Park east of Fairland, Oklahoma at Shelter #3. We have the Shelter all day. We welcome WESTON allied families to attend, to name a few BABB, ARNOLD, SKELTON, HERD and others. The WESTON's and other families migrated to Barry County Missouri from Hawkins County Tennessee in 1851. The first WESTON reunion was held in 1935 on Roaring River south of Cassville with the descendants of Simon WESTON. About 1984 the reunion was expanded to include descendants of Harvey (Sullivan County Missouri), Thomas A., James and Isaac WESTON. A covered dish dinner will be at noon with a meeting held afterwards. For a good time please attend. David Weston
Wish I could go, but clear out here in California now and can't travel right now. Hope someone will be there and collect info on different Allen lines that attend. I'm a descendant of Elizabeth Allen and John Hunt. She was born about 1797 in Virginia, and died in 1865 in Round Grove Mo., where she is buried. John died in Marion, Crittenden Co. List Readers, the magic word for today is cemetery. As the weather cools - so does the cemetery fever rise. We don't have very many left to do. Let's see if we can knock off a few of them this fall. Be sure and let me know when you are working on one so that we don't double up on our efforts. If you see a cemetery page that looks a little strange - could be because I am working on it. Just in case there is a problem - you might send me a link to it and let me check it out. We do want our pages to be accurate - as accurate as humanly possible - that is what having a good resource is all about. As you know this project has taken a lot of hands on the keyboard and many eyes on the pages to get it where it is today. Here are some new additions that were posted - Seligman - from obits and death certificates - William Harrison Jones, John Weston, Glenda (Hall) Shockley, William King, Martha (Lawler?) Snyder, Thelma Babb, Charles Hacket, Lisa Lynne Roller, Andrew Ash, I added the newspaper item to the data Phyllis posted. Jim McClann - killed by a train in 1912. I added the newspaper item to the data Phyllis posted. Seems this fellow was unknown in the area. A later notice in the paper reads that he was probably from Harrison, AR. List Readers: You will remember that I told you sometime back that the Barry County web site is under total reconstruction and that the old "obsolete" font pages are being updated to XHTML in CSS. This means that these new pages will meet newer browser and other web standards. As you scoot around in cyberspace looking at the Barry County pages you will probably notice a little yellow box at the bottom of some of these new pages that reads "W3C css". That is really just a marker for me so that I will know that those pages validate to the standards of the World Wide Web Consortium and that I don't need to work on them again. Beyond the technical talk - by doing this project we can be assured that our pages will be readable for a long, long time. Yes, as you probably figured out by now - this type of web work is taking a lot of time but certainly will be worth it in the long run. So - I want to show some of the new pages and see how you like them. This one is of a photo that Ralph Lamberson submitted - http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/photos/photo-3/balmas.john.p.htm Here is one that Georgia Ball Farwell Hart submitted - and updated her new address with this newer version. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/photos/photo-3/ball.john.fam.htm This one is of the Blankenship family that Larry Edwards submitted - it is little different style than the other two - and has added some new notes that Phyllis Long submitted. As we go, in some cases, we are also adding some research notes and changing "unworkable" e-mail addresses. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/photos/edwards/blankenshiplor.htm In the newspaper clips is a news item that Jack Fly submitted. Phyllis is helping with the news items - here is a sample of the new format for this section and one she did. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/data/news/corsicanafly.htm World War I is totally in a new format - here is what it looks like now. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/WWI/index.htm World War Ii is in a totally new format, too - here are the new pages - http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/WWII/WWII.htm The obits and death certificates are in a new format, too. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/data/obits.htm Some of the cemetery pages are in new format - but not all - not yet. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/cemetery/rschcemtery.htm Hope you enjoy these new changes and hang in there with us as we work through this project. List Readers, we have a photo of Gilbert Howard Lowery and family as our featured photo for the week. I think maybe that Gilbert was born in or about 1866 and his wife in or about 1867 from what I have read. I would like to know what Susie's maiden name was and more about them so that I can add that information to the web page - so if you can add information to this file it will be greatly appreciated. Pictured are: 1. Gilbert Howard Lowery, the third born son of Amanda (Edwards) Lowery; 2. William Vernon Lowery, son of Gilbert and Sarah "Susan" Lowery; and 3. Sarah "Susan" Lowery, Gilbert's Wife. Do any of you know if William Vernon Lowery married into the Henbest family? http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/oddsnends/bryfams.htm Thanks goes to Larry Edwards who submitted this nice old photo to the web site many moons ago. Have a good Sunday. Donna Cooper
List Readers, here are some new notes for New Salem Cemetery that I posted today. Darla Marbut added a note for - William David Carroll. Phyllis Long added notes for these from obits and death certificates. And William Chaney was a new entry that we didn't have. He died in Oklahoma and evidently doesn't have a stone. William Chaney, Garland Coker, Ethel (Coker) Shultz, Bill Wardlaw, Charlene Chaney, Richard Newton Chaney, James Chaney, John Chaney, Cecil Brewer, Reuben Skelton, Lena Skelton, Rosanna (Roller) Sons, James Adam Skelton, and for Richard David Tillman I added a separate page for the notes. He killed his wife and himself and so the newspaper item was added to the page. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/cemetery/newsalem/newsalem.htm Don't you just love to read the notes we have on our cemetery pages. One time I remember getting a message from a lady who told me she'd sometimes read our cemetery notes 4 or 5 hours at a time and how she wished other web sites who follow suite to us - so from that I take it that she found help in what we do. Thanks goes to Darla Marbut and Phyllis Long for helping out with today's new items. Donna Cooper
List Readers, here are some new photos that came in from Frank Hatton and Vicky Jenkins. I think that you'll love seeing these old machines - hers are for the Beeson and allied families. There is an old threshing machine in one of these that should date the photo pretty close. But I don't know how to do that. Maybe some of you will have an idea when those were used. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/photos/phs-1.htm Thanks goes to Frank Hatton and Vicky Jenkins for sharing these great old photos with us. Thanks, Jack. I added this new information to the Ennis front page. I do know for a fact that using dowsing rods works and so I want to thank you for going out there and checking this information out for us. It is good that Vicky passed that information on to us, too. Ted Roller gave me some rods when we did Oak Hill. And so when in Minnesota a few weeks ago, we used them to locate the graves that we were putting up new stones for. It was fun - because everyone who came out to the cemetery had to try them out. Some people grasp the theory quickly and others just couldn't get it. We took orange spray paint and marked the grassy spots where the bodies laid so that we knew where the stones were to be placed. As you know babies and children are much shorter and the rods prove that for you, too. I even found one grave that was about 10 feet long. A man there told me that his mother and her child, at her feet, were both in one grave - and so that was why that grave was so long. I must add here that I do believe now that I can distinguish the difference between a male from a female by using them. This is a great tool and want to thank you or whoever it was that introduced this technique to our grave studies. List Readers, I wonder if this new item below is about the Bowers - Marbut Mill. Anyone know? Newspaper - Cassville Democrat Date - February 27, 1909, Saturday Headline -Travers News Text - Geo. Teel bought the Huck Carver farm of Mr. Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery bought Mr. Teel's farm and mill property. They exchanged places last week. We regret losing Mr. Teel from our neighborhood, but at the same time most heartily welcome Mr. Montgomery and wish them both unbounded success. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/data/news/1909millproperty.htm I have several photos to do - but it will be tomorrow before I can get to them. Don Warner sent ua an obit for Faye F. (Decocq) Herrel. It published in the Monett Times with her name spelled incorrectly as Harrel. Barbara Erwin, our obit lady, posted several nice old obits. Sarah Jane (Edwards) Roller, Arthur Henbest, Martha Catherene (Long) Lewis, Maple Dora (Godard) Scott - and we corrected the death place on the Washburn Prairie Cemetery files with it. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/data/obits.htm Betty Cooper posted some death certificate abstracts - Norman Stockron, Matilda (Stockton) Eden, Mabell (Shackelford) Stockton, Marion Troy Stockton, Mary E. (Clemens) Stockton, Mirah Jane (Meek) Stockton. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/data/obits.htm Thanks goes to our helpers - Betty Cooper, Barbara Erwin and Don Warner for our new items today. MORE TOMORROW Donna Cooper
Good Afternoon Donna, Vicky and MOBARRY, I read your posting this morning and it got my curiosity up so I loaded ol' Dixie "the Cemetery Dog" in the truck and we started off for the Ennis Cemetery. The following may shed some light on this mystery. Using dowsing rods I worked the area of the Beeson graves. The rods indicate that there is no one buried in the grave marked by the headstone "Infant daughter of A.C. & L.F. Beeson." My guess is that your mystery child is actually the" Infant Daughter". In any event the headstone for "Infant Daughter of A.C. & L.F." is marking an empty grave. List Readers, I have some more new photos that I will try and post later on today. Also I have a stack of other new things to post and so I will work on those later today, too. I do have this photo to tell you about - just posted a photo of the Beeson family. I wonder if they are making sorghum or cooking maple syrup. I don't think it looks like either one but was wondering what they are doing and thought some of you might know. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/photos/photo-3/beesonFamily09.htm For Purdy Cemetery - Phyllis Long posted these notes from death certificates and obits. Sheridan Martin, McMinn Infant, Jewell (Nickle) Davis, William Dempsey Gurley, Ray Moore, Sarah Lowery, Albert Horine, Loren Harrison Mahurin, Edna Marzell Bayless. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/cemetery/purdy/purdy.htm Leann Cemetery - Phyllis Long posted - Rilla Ann Suttles - her note reads that Thomas C. Suttles donated the land for Leann Cemetery and that his father Strother was the first person buried there. She said that information was from Kathy Suttles' database on Roots. Do any of you have anything to add to that? http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/cemetery/leann/leann.htm Thanks goes to Vicky Jenkins and Phyllis Long for all of these new items. More Later - Donna Cooper
Good morning, I was wondering if we have any list readers out there who might know about a baby buried in Ennis Cemetery before 1870 and who could help us indentify a mystery grave. Vicky Jenkins said that Dutch Beeson, her father, said when they were digging a grave for her granddad, Estel Beeson, that a body, that of a baby, was found where he was supposed to be buried. {he was suppose to buried on the other side of her Uncle Everett and before Eunice}. She said that was in Aug 1976. They stopped digging when they realized there was already a body there. She said that all of Albert and Laura's babies are marked, Olan, John, Eunice and an Infant girl. At the time there were no missing Ennis/Ennes babies so the belief is this child was buried before the family started the cemetery {that would be before 1870} but no one knows for sure. Donna Cooper
