I am searching for the parents and descendants of James Peter Tharp, born March 3, 1844, in either Salt River Township of Audrain County, MO. (as recorded by his daughter, Emma Jane Tharp Bodkin) or more likely somewhere in Kentucky (as reported by him or his wife in the 1870 and 1880 Audrain County Census). My great-great grandfather married Susan Helm, daughter of Joseph Wilcox Helm and Nancy Washington Mallory, of Monroe County, MO. on January 7, 1869, in either Monroe or Audrain County. I have yet to find the actual record, but am going by information in Emma Jane's bible record. James and Susan had ten children: 1) Harriet Amy Tharp, b. Oct. 10, 1869, d. Robinson Jan. 7, 1891 died March 4, 1908 4) John William Tharp, b. Sept. 30, 1876, m. Sadie Siebert 5) Emma Jane Tharp (my gr-grandmother), b. Feb. 5, 1879, m. Thomas Edward Bodkin Oct. 14, 1900, d. July 14, 1973 6) Nancy Susan Tharp, b. May 14, 1881, m. Jesse David Griffin Oct. 20, 1897, d. Oct. 16, 1959 7) Lucy May Tharp, b. Aug. 31, 1831, m. Charles H. Robinson between March 1908-June 1909, d. July 26, 1964 8) James Osker Tharp, b. Dec. 27, 1885, m. Fannie Belle Bostic Dec. 22, 1912, d. Feb. 1973 9) Joseph Nathan Tharp, b. July 16, 1888, d. Nov. 21, 1905 10) Nora Ethel Tharp, b. May 4, 1892, m. Homer Gore, d. August 1973 James Peter Tharp died on December 14, 1895, from pneumonia at his home three miles west of Mexico.
