Just wanted to say 'HI' to you Thomas. My 2nd cousin twice removed, Alice Richart, was married to Dan Violette. I believe Dan was the son of Merritt Violette. I don't have the Violette ancestry, so I don't know if he was the son of Merritt Sr. or Jr. I may be wrong because I am not looking into my records that I have on file. Linda - I am researching BOWEN but have a Jennings Ira BOSWELL who married a Myrtle BOWEN. He was born 1889 in Missouri (I don't know the county). Let me know if he is yours. Susan sadquacker@aol.com
Thomas, Thank you for sending the obituary and the biography. This definitely is not our White family. Ours came from Delaware to Ohio to Illinois with the Douglas White I mentioned born in 1856 in McDonough Co IL & dying in 1929. I believe he died in Audrain Co MO, but need to just go there and find it all for ourselves, I think. My husband's father, aunt & uncle do not remember any oral reports on him, so we have nothing much to go on. You are fortunate to have so much on yours. Thanks again, Mary Jane White
We have family in Audrain Co since the 1840's-1850's including the surnames- ZUCK [related to AUSTINS in Illinois] NORMAN PAYNE BRANDENBURG HALL SMITH BOSWELL Some of these lines go over into Callaway and Montgomery Co. If anyone is working on these lines, I would like to hear from you. Thank you. HE WAS CONVEYED TO HIS HOME TO BE PREPARED FOR BURIAL. WILLIAM H. WHITE WAS BORN IN SALT RIVER TOWNSHIP SEPTEMBER 9 , 1838. AS A FARMER, HIS CAREER HAD BEEN ONE OF SUCCESS. THE DECEASED HAD BEEN MARRIED TWICE. TO HIS PRESENT WIFE HE WAS MARRIED NOV. 22, 1863. MR. WHITE HAS HELD OFFICES OF TRUST, BOTH IN THE COUNTY AND THE CITY. IN ABOUT 1869 WHEN THE OFFICES OF SHERIFF AND COLLECTOR WERE TOGETHER, HE SERVED IN THIS CAPACITY, AND IN RECENT YEARS HE HAS SERVED TWO TERMS AS CITY MARSHAL. THE LEDGER JOINS OTHER FRIENDS IN EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE BEREAVED ONES IN THE SUDDEN DEATH OF THIS GOOD MAN." William Henry White, Wm. Merritt's father was married twice. See page 966 and 967 of "History of Audrain County" (Missouri): "WILLIAM H. WHITE one of the principal farmers and stock raisers of Audrain county, and one of its prominent and influential citizens, is a native of the county, and come of one of the oldest and best families. His parents, William White, and wife, nee Elizabeth Shugart, emigrated from Pennsylvania to this State in about 1834, and settled in Audrain county two years afterwards, where they lived long and useful lives and were followed to their graves by the regret and sorrow of all who knew them. William White, Sr., was extensively engaged in farming in this county, and also followed merchandising at Mexico in an early day. He became quite wealthy, and when he died left a large estate. Of the family of children, three are now living,_ besides William H., Mary E., now the wife of Hon. James M. Proctor, of Boone county ; and Martha E., the wife of John G. Strode, of Boone county. William H. White, the subject of the present sketch, was born on his father's homestead in Salt River township, September 9, 1838. Reared on his father's farm, he was educated in the schools; of Mexico, and early embarked in farming for himself, the occupation to which he has been brought up. As a farmer, Mr. White's career has been one of marked success. Left by his father with a comfortable start in life, he has shown himself to be worthy of it by the manner in which he has managed his affairs and the success which has crowned his industry and enterprise. Mr. White has increased his possessions in this county until now he has some 1,200 acres of fine land, the major part of which is improved and either in active cultivation, meadow or pasturage. He raises over 300 acres of grain, principally corn, and harvests annually about 250 acres of meadow. Mr. White is extensively engaged in stock raising and handling stock and ships to the wholesale markets yearly about 200 head of cattle and the same number of hogs. A man of broad and liberal ideas, he is known to be one of the public spirited citizens of the county, and contributes freely by his efforts and, whenever necessary, of his means to all movements designed for the building up and best interests of the county. Mr. White has been married twice. On the 7th of November,1858, he was married to Miss Julia Violet [Juliet Elizabeth Priscilla Violette], of Monroe county. She died six years afterwards, June 13, 1864, leaving him two children: William M. and Clay Price, the former a resident of this county, but the latter of Paris, Arkansas. To his present wife, formerly Miss Mary C. Holliday, a daughter of William Holliday, of Bourbon county, Kentucky, he was married November 22,1866. Mr. and Mrs. White have five children: Lizzie Lee, Abner C., Louella, Charles H. H. and Marion: One besides, the second child, Nannie, died in tender years. Mr. White is a member of the A. F. and A. M., being a brother in the Royal Arch Chapter. He is also a member of the A. O. U. My ancestors Samuel B. Jeffries and his wife Mary Ann Connor were married and living in Audrain Co. with 2 children, in 1860. Before 1870 they left. She is a widow living in CA in 1870. Are there any newspapers that were printed in the 1860's that might talk about this family? Thanks for your help. Phyllis Young

Emily: I wish I had more info for you but I am just starting on the HAYNES line. I only found Almarinda HAYNES last Saturday. I will tell you that Nancy 'D.' listed in the 1850 census in the home of Joel HAYNES could be Nancy 'J.' It was very hard to make out. I compared it to other 'J's' on the page and decided it was a 'D'. I could be wrong. Nancy was 22 in 1850 and still living at home. Almarinda did not marry until she was 34 so there may be a trend with this family of late marriages, for whatever reason. Hello, I am new to the Haynes family and the Breckinridge and Audrain Cos. lists. Looking for help with identifying the children of Joel HAYNES. Looking at census and birth places of his children over a period of years, it appears that Joel HAYNES arrived in Missouri from Kentucky about 1828-1829. I did not find him in Audrain Co., MO in 1830. 1840 Audrain Co., MO Federal Enumeration Census Salt River Township, page 10, line 26 Joel HAYNES 1 male - 5 and under 10 (probably Charles) 1 male - 10 and under 15 (probably John) 1 male - 16 and under 20 1 male - 20 and under 30 (Is this the Henry G. Janis: Thanks for your efforts, but this is not the Wade Hampton Green that I was looking for. His parents were James E. Green, born in 1831 and Sarah Byrns, born in 1840. The Wade Green in Franklin County was living in his grandparents' home who were younger than my Wade Green's parents. I do appreciate that we've, at least, eliminated one possibility. Rod G.
Janis: That might possibly be him. Bertha and he did not marry until Dec. 23, 1903. I don't have a Missouri map handy just now, but I don't think that Franklin Co. is that far away from Audrain. You referred to "Nativity"...is that the name of a town? Was this Wade Green living in a household with anyone else...or was it a rooming house, perhaps? Thanks for your time & assistance. Rod, 1900 census, Missouri. I find a Wade Green, age 22 and single, working for the RR. Do you know what year he and Bertha married? This is Franklin Co, Mo. Probably one end of his RR run.
