    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, Lets have a Roll Call this weekend. The Roll Call will begin on Thursday Morning April 18th and continue on through Sunday evening April 21st. (PLEASE DO NOT BEGIN TO SEND YOUR ROLL CALL POSTINGS UNTIL THURSDAY MORNING.) Post your Surnames, dates townships if known and if you are posting to multiple counties that I take care of, be sure and mention county. If you are posting to a county along a state line when I take care of lists on both sides, you might also mention the state. You are welcome to post as much information as you wish and as little as long as there is a Surname, county and or time period. Be sure and watch the Subject line and CHANGE IT TO MATCH YOUR ROLL CALL POSTING to encourage members to read your message, such as ROLL CALL: SMITH, JONES, KELLETT 1830-1870 COUNTY NAME. PLEASE DO NOT JUST HIT RETURN AND TYPE IN YOUR INFORMATION!!!! CHANGE THE SUBJECT LINE AND DELETE THE LAST MESSAGE LONG WITH TAGLINES. Following these instructions will make this a much better Roll Call for all our members including yourself. For those members who do not like Roll Calls, just delete the messages and know that come Sunday night - it will be over. I continue to appreciate your support. It is because of each of you that our list is as strong as it is. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    1. [MOAUDRAI] First Quarterly Report for 2002
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, The First Quarterly Report for 2002 is going to be just a little different than the one I usually send to the Mailing Lists I take care of. I tore my Rotator Cuff in November of last year and I find that I cannot spend long hours typing on the computer during the healing process, therefore I am going to send out one message to all of my lists and skip posting the membership numbers this time. I promise to get back to our normal reporting next quarter. Typing over 200 messages is just more than this shoulder and arm can take. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly Spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 2. If you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line it might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 4. The wonderful relationship that develops between list members is also one of a Mailing Lists Problems. I encourage you to respond to the entire list with genealogical responses, you never know who your response will help. In the same thought I would like to ask you to not respond to the entire list with personal responses. Such as, the first message from a member says "Happy Birthday Mary" and then Mary says "Thank you” and then about 60 of our members also send "Happy Birthday Mary". This is what I mean by personal messages. Just keep in mind anything is ok to be posted as long as it has to do with the subject of the list. If you have a doubt ask me. KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. If you do notice that one of our members has a virus, please do not post their name and e-mail address across the list. Let me know and I will take care of the problem. Most likely the member already knows and is in a major state of stress. Receiving messages of each of us will only cause his or her stress level to rise. If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fuller’s Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any Rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will receive an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. 3. Need help I have this from "Vandalia Leader," 26 July 1901 Thursday #33, L.C.Reel died at his home southwest of town Saturday. The remains were interned in Vandalia Cemetery Sunday. He had been a great sufferer for the past two years or more the result of an injury. He leaves a wife and several children. L. C. Reel was my great grandfather, Lewis Crawford Reel. Family stories claim he was a one-armed thresher. I have a copy of a letter written by Minerva Mulherin Reel his wife, postmarked 4 Feb 1897; in it she mentions Lewis as being ill but able to get up today. Their child, Sally who died 26 Jan 1897, funeral was preached at the house. I am trying to find out when his injury occurred and what his occupation may have been. 3. If you are conducting research regarding the War in Missouri, I strongly recommend the new book, "Enemy Women," by Paulette Jiles. It is well-researched and a good story about the civilian misery during the "misnamed" Civil War. As you'll see, there was little about it that was civil.

    2. Seeking any information available regarding Harrison C. Bodkin (born abt. 1841 in Harrison Co., KY) and Nancy A. Snodgrass (born abt. 1843). According to two sources, the couple was married in Audrain Co., Missouri on December 22, 1870, by a J. B. Leachman, Justice of the Peace. Harrison was an older brother of my great-great grandfather, Zachary Taylor (Z.T.) Bodkin. I have no other information about Harrison and Nancy other than she might have been married previously and Snodgrass might have been the last name of her first husband. I would like to know if they remained in Audrain County after their marriage. Could someone with access to the 1880 Census, please, look to see if they were there and if so provide me with any information included in that census? Note that this family has shown up under various spellings including "Botkin," "Bodkins" and "Botkins." As always I appreciate the assistance of all the wonderful volunteers on this list.
