I found a James Rough in Missouri in the 1860 Greene county census. He was 15 years old and working on the farm of ????(looks like Falmon) Carter. He was working as a tobacconist. Page 159, family number 1124, Campbell township, Springfield p.o. Hope this is the right person. Dear List Members, If you were effected by the Comcast buy out, then you need to read this, if not delete it. Just this evening, I have receive over 100 requests for me to change e-mail address to a Comcast address. Many of these requests mention multiple lists of which the sender needs their e-mail address changed. It will take me a good week or so to get through them all. My suggestion is; If you still have the ability to unsubscribe go to PASSWORD Central at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ type in your old e-mail address, and follow the directions. You will receive an e-mail from which you can unsubscribe. If you can't do this, then you will just need to re-subscribe with your new address and let the old one bounce off. To re-subscribe this go to John Fuller's mailing list site http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html or remember you can subscribe and or unsubscribe by sending only the word UNSUBSCRIBE or SUBSCRIBE to XXXXXX-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM or XXXXXX-D-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM if you are on the Digest List. Naturally change the XXXXXX to the name of the list. If all else fails, contact me, but be understanding if it takes me a while to get to you. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Thanks, Howard, for the note. But I've been down this road before, and have yet to find any material connection from John to his parents, whoever they may be. If you've got something to substantiate this claim, I sure would appreciate knowing about it. Best of luck to you! ........ Thomas B. HILL, youngest brother of my Great Grandfather, was born 15 Apr 1840 in Callaway Co., Missouri. His parents were John & Frances (TATUM) HILL, who migrated from Virginia to Missouri about 1836. He married first Abbie DEENS (DEANS) about 1861, probably in Callaway Co., Missouri. I know not when she was born, and she died about 1874, probably in Audrain Co., Missouri. Their children were: Sallie E. b: 1861 Ida F. b: 1863 Emma M. b: 1866 Alfred T. b: 1868 Minnie B. b: 1870 He married second Margaret E. STINSON, widow of William D. KEITH, on 18 Aug 1875 in Audrain Co., Missouri. I have no birth or death information on her. They had one child: Walter b: 1876 He married a third time to Elizabeth (surname unknown) about 1878, probably in Audrain Co., Missouri. She was born about 1840 and died some time after 1880. They had one child: Cora b: 1879 I have a note (unsubstantiated) that Thomas in 1873 was on the founding board of directors for Hardin College of Mexico, Audrain Co., Missouri. Thomas died sometime after the 1880 census, when he was living in Wilson Township, Audrain Co., Missouri, where his two brothers and their father also lived. Again, I'm hoping someone will recognize Thomas, his wives and/or his children, and have something to add to my pitifully small file on him. Thanks for reading this far, and good luck tracing your own ancestry. Bob Hill in AZ
Tazwell B. HILL was my Great Grandfather's younger brother. He was born 27 May 1837 in Callaway Co., Missouri not long after his parents, John & Frances (TATUM) migrated there from Virginia. He married first Belle MOGER, 4 Mar 1862, probably in Callaway Co., Missouri. She was born 1 Feb 1841 and died 12 Mar 1873. Their children were: Alice b: 1863 Annie b: 1865 Tina b: 1867 Leetie b: 1868 He married second Amanda M. ROSS, 30 Dec 1873 in Crawford Co., Georgia. * She was born 14 Mar 1846 and died 6 Mar 1915. Their children were: Addie b: 1877 Otie b: 1878 Tazewell died 11 Dec 1925, probably in Audrain Co., Missouri. He and his two wives are buried in Midway Cemetery, 12 miles north of Mexico, Audrain Co., MO. * PUZZLE - This marriage is documented, but I guess I'm presuming that my Tazwell HILL and the one listed in the marriage book are the same. My two reasons for doing so are: 1 - Tazwell is a very unusual given name. 2 - Amenda (spelling) is how his wife's name is spelled on the 1880 census. But the census also causes some confusion because her birthplace is shown as Ohio. It's possible she moved with her family or a spouse from Ohio to Georgia. Figuring she was 27 when she married in 1873, an earlier marriage would be quite possible. The other part of the puzzle is, why and when was Tazwell in Crawford Co., Georgia? I'm hoping one of you has information about Tazwell, his wives and/or his children that you're willing to share. Thanks for reading this far, and good luck with your own puzzles. Bob Hill in AZ
Tandy L. HILL was my Great Grandfather. His son Everett was my Grandfather. I was lucky enough to find someone via a posting a few years ago who actually lived where Tandy lived and was able to find information locally about him and graciously sent it on to me. I am indebted to her, and very thankful for her kindness. Now I'm going to try again to see if there is any other information about Tandy, his siblings and his children. It seems that the more I learn about my ancestors, the more I realize I don't yet know. I'll post separately what I've learned about Tandy's two brothers, as this looks like it will be plenty long without them. Tandy was born 21 Dec 1834 in Albemarle Co., Virginia. His parents were John HILL & Frances TATUM They migrated from Virginia to Missouri shortly after Tandy was born. (on 1835 census of Callaway Co., Missouri) His siblings were: Tazwell B. b: 27 May 1837 d: 11 Dec 1925 Thomas B. b: 15 Apr 1840 d: ? Tandy married first Susan I. VANZANDT 21 Oct 1858 in Audrain Co., Missouri. She was born 24 Jun 1834 in Logan Co., Kentucky, and died 1 Jun 1884 in Audrain Co. Their children were: Everett Tandy b: 11 Sep 1860; m: Lettie STEVENS; d: 18 Jun 1937 Mattie b: 1864; m: G. W. VANLANDINGHAM Effie b: 1866; m: J. PRATT Susan Frances b: 5 Jul 1869; d: 10 Sep 1871 Sidney b: 1873 Mae b: 1875; m: ? MOREHOUSE Tandy married second Margaret RUTTER 1 Feb 1887 in Mexico, Audrain Co., Missouri. She was born 21 Sep 1853 in Pitsfield, Pike Co., Illinois and died 20 Mar 1938 in Mexico, Missouri. (previously married to Hiram MORGAN) They had one child: Clyde Lipscome b: 10 Nov 1893; m: Mary S. CANDY; d: 25 Sep 1964 Tandy's occupation was carpenter and he worked for the city of Mexico (Audrain Co.) as weighmaster for 15 years. His home was at 309 W. Promenade St., Mexico, Missouri. He died there at the age of 84 on 6 Apr 1919. Thank you for reading this far. If you have any additions or corrections to my information, please respond via the list (or privately if you prefer) , but please do respond. Again, thanks! Bob Hill in AZ
For those of you who are visiting the cemeteries and graves of your loved ones, your ancestors this weekend and have a few extra flowers, think of placing them on one of the lonely graves which are never visited. Or, if you are living in an area where you have no one, think of visiting a cemetery and placing flowers by one of these lonely graves. I live in Logan Utah and tomorrow I will be visiting several local cemeteries and will be placing flowers on graves. Over the past years I have adopted these graves, these people and I hope that someone out there is doing the same for my loved ones. This is the day to remember those who came before us, who forged the paths that we now walk. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members, It is that time of year when some of you will be leaving on Vacations. You can unsubscribe using this e-mail. Save it and you then have a list of mailing lists you want to re-subscribe to. When you return, you can check the Archives for this list at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ Just type in the name of the list and you can check the messages for the dates you were gone. The following was shared with me and I think it is one of the best Maps I have seen showing the growth and history of the United States. http://www.animatedatlas.com/movie.html I appreciate each of you and know that it is because of you our list is the success it is. I am looking for the family of John William Turley born c. 1860 in Illinois. He could be the son of Robert and Sarah J. Turley who were living in Calloway county, MO in 1900 with a grandaughter, Maemi, born April 1884 in Illinois. I understand that Robert moved to Mexico MO after the death of his wife in 1912 and may have died there. Sarah is buried in Illinois. Any information will be helpful. Thanks, Merrill

Folks, I'm sending this to about everyone I know. I called my personal credit card company and they said this is TRUE! Have your credit card company put you on their do not share list, but call the number below and get some printed info on this situation. Your credit can be shared with prospective employer or banks and has something to do with the reason all of us are now signing medical forms allowing our data to be shared when we go to the doctor or pharmacist. No one has yet been able to tell me WHY this is happening. One would suspect to have more knowledge and control of the individual, however. DO check with your credit card companies! This is REAL... Regardless of your opinion on this it is important to be informed...ask WHY this is occurring! We have a right to know when our privacy is lessened. Best wishes, Emily This was sent to me and I checked it out. It appears to be legitimate. There is more on this at: http://www.pirg.org/consumer/credit/bureaus.htm Your Credit: Personal Information goes public Starting July 1st, 2003, the four major credit bureaus in the US (Equifax, etc.) will be allowed to release credit info, mailing addresses, phone numbers, etc., to ANYONE who requests it. If you do not want to be included in this release of your personal information, you can call 1-888-567-8688. Once the message starts you will want option #2 (even though option #1 refers to this email, push #2) and then option #3. Be sure to listen closely, the first option is only for a two-year period. Make sure you wait until they prompt for the third option, which opts you out FOREVER. You should receive their paperwork in the mail confirming the "opting out" in less than one week after making the call. PASS THIS MESSAGE ON TO ALL IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK, FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
