I already had the marriage info but not the parents of Mary Jane Guthrie! Thanks again. Do you have maiden name of Sally? Did Samuel have middle name of Newton? Guthrie, MO was named after the Guthrie family of MO. Seems the father? sold land to the Railroad and in return the town that was built was named Guthrie. In the library in Mexico, MO. there are copies of letters between the Guthrie and Moore families. They weregiven by me as well as photos of the families. If you have not done so perhaps they may be of use to you? Jim

The Guthries you mentioned do not sound familier. What I have is wife of Robert Moore was Susannah KIng Guthrie. her parents were Thomas Guthrie and Sarah Oakes. Thomas was born abt 1718 in St John Parish, King William Co., VA. Married abt 1738 died Oct 1790 in Cumberland Co., VA. Perhaps the Guthries you are finding in Cumberland cemetery will uncover Thomas's grave. I am currently located in Louisiana.Hope this will help. I also have some information on Guthries in MO. that married into the Moore family and also settled Guthrie, MO. Jim

Nichol's. Since last chat, I have been cleaning up the Crisswell or Old Cumberland cemetery and have found a lot of Guthrie children buried there with Ann C. The boy named Beau, was probably Samuel Beauregard Guthrie. Where are you located?

    1. RE: [MOAUDRAI] Re: Smith/Baker Quick Look
    2. Betty I was doing a little homework on the Nichols family of Callaway... tell me how they are related to the Bakers... I am tracking a slaves or two who appeared to have been owned by William Nichols (or rather the Nichols family). Parents of one of the slaves was named GRANT; their daughter took the surname of her owner NICHOLS... she married a Samuel Tutt; neighbors to David Newsome in Callaway. I understand there was a Judge Grant who was murdered by a slave? Former slaves; Joe and Judy are 80 and 70 years old in 1870 living with Samuel & Harriett (Nichols) Tutt. The Bakers appear to have some connection with Griffiths and McClanahans? Traci Wilson-Kleekamp

Surnames: Smith/Baker/Becker/ Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wJB.2ACE/924.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Dan, This family also ties into the Nichols family of Callaway County and possibly the Collins family too. Evidently some of the Bakers spelled and used the name as Becker in Callaway County. - quoting what I was told ( Becker/Nichols marriage) William Wiley Smith and Rebecca Maria Baker were the parents of twelve children. Rebecca was full blood Cherokee according to the family, and may have been " card carrying" which would be proof of the Cherokee ancestry. A note regarding daughter Nancy Smith Baker says: N. got Jacob's pension from the CW and also got an Indian pension from government about $40.00 a mos for many years. Certificate of marriage: State of Missouri County of Osage: This is to Certify that I united in the Holy Bounds of Matrimony Mr.Charley Baker of Osage Coounty, MO and Miss Nancy Cordelia Smith of Osage County, Mo on Sunday the 18th day of July AD 1869 Given under my hand this 18th day of July 1869 Signed Charles Orsterawold Justice of the Peace. I haven't had time to sort this material , but both William Wiley Smith and Rebecca Baker died in Mexico according to this material. I do not think they had the information you have posted, at least not the lady that gave this stuff and she will be happy to have it. I think she truly would like to prove beyond a doubt the Cherokee part by finding the records of any payments. I wonder how they wound up in Mexico, lots of readng here to do Thanks Betty
