    1. Re: [MOANDREW] ST CLAIR obit
    2. Here are my St. Clair puzzles, in case anyone else is researching this name. Hiram B. St. Clair (also sometimes listed as St. Clear, on at least one census) was married (Oct 25 1852, Andrew Co) to Annaretta (Annasetta) George, daughter of Enoch and Jane McCotter George, originally of Butler County, OH. Did they just meet in Andrew Co, or did they know each other back in southwestern Ohio where St. Clair was a popular name? Hiram and Annaretta apparently had no children of their own, but during censuses, they had foster children living with them. In 1860 (temporarily across the river in Doniphan Co KS) they had B. W. Bughes (14, MO) and Chat Atkinson (3, IN) plus a 50 yr old Prussian, Robert Riece. In 1870 (Platte twp, Andrew Co) they had Charles Atkison (13). In 1880 (Platte twp, And Co) they had Clara St. Clair (5, MO) and Gertrude Baily (22, KS). Gertrude was Annaretta's 1st cousin's daughter. By 1880, Annaretta and Hiram would have been 53 and 56 respectively. That seems too old for Clara to actually be their child, even if her name was St. Clair. So who was she? And what happened to Charles (Chat) Atkison/Atkinson? Who were Hiram St. Clair's parents? He was born in KY in 1824, and said in the 1880 census that his parents were born in KY, too. Was Hiram related to other Andrew Co St. Clair families, like George W. and Susie Garner St. Clair? Or Jason B. and Frances Wills St. Clair? or Sarah St. Clair and her husband Alfred Pearce? As usual, I seem to have lots more questions than answers, but I'd be glad to trade what I know for any answers to the above. Thanks. Nancy Sween http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohbutler/
