    3. Marie Reed and others, Re: The Local History Book: NOVINGER (ADAIR COUNTY), MISSOURI: The People, the Town and the Surrounding Communities contains That book is out of print and has been for several years. I was the committee chair for Novinger Renewal, Inc. (NRI) that researched, wrote and published the book in 2001. NRI will eventually reprint it and I am keeping a record of those who want to be notified when it is available in a few more years. Those who are interested in being notified when the reprinted book becomes available, please advise me by email on the following address: [email protected] To help finance the book, we accepted biographies from people who lived in the greater Novinger area. However, the book is a local history book with family biographies included - not a genealogy or family history book. It sold for $45 plus $5 shipping. However, we don't know what the price will be after reprinting. Book Description: This book entitled NOVINGER (ADAIR COUNTY), MISSOURI: The People, the Town and the Surrounding Communities contains 768 total pages including an in-depth history of: (1) Novinger, Missouri (120 pages); (2) Each of the other towns and place names located on, or west of, the Chariton River (103 pages); (3) The Quincy, Omaha & Kansas City Railroad (24 pages); (4) The Iowa and St. Louis Railroad (11 pages); (5) Coal Mining in Adair County; (6) Novinger area Organizations (64 pages) and (7) Businesses in Novinger, Missouri 1901-2001 (20 pages). In addition the book includes 270 pages of 134 biographies (95 different surnames) for those who live or once lived in western Adair County plus many of their descendants. The book also contains 670 historic and biographical photographs, a 76-page all-name index containing over 20,000 entries and 10,530 given names listed under 2,170 different surnames. The book has a hard cover, is 8 1/2 X 11 inches and is printed on acid free paper. It contains a map showing the name and location of every cemetery in Adair County, a photograph of each school building that was located in Adair County as of 1950 (about 70 of them) and maps showing the location of every major coal mine that ever existed in Adair County. By the way, both the 1979 and the 2001 centennial books are described in: http://homepage.mac.com/ggl1/index.html That site has several free genealogy databases and indexes for Adair and Putnam counties as well as descriptions of some family history books, some of which are still in print.
