Help. I have copywrite question I have access to "History of Novinger Missouri and Surrounding Communities in Adair Co., Misouri" It is a book published 1979 of articles from the Kirksville Mo., Express and News 1977-1979 by Maxine Montgomery & P.O Selby. It is a companion to THE FIRST HUNDRED YEARS 1879-1979 NOVINGER MISSOURI VOL 1-2 that I also have access to. Dixie Overstreet Steen from Melba Idaho (her & late hubby Alton Steen grew up in Adair) own the books and she is letting me read them and said I could share. My question is: Can I scan this book in and share it on the web without getting into trouble?? Cheryl in Idaho (((((((((((((((((@@)))))))))))))))))))) Treasure every moment that you have! ...time waits for no one. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it's called the present!!
Cheryl, I don't believe you can, unless you get permission. But any information that pertains to your own family history, I think, would be OK to use not scan a page and place on web. If you want, you can email Gary G. Lloyd [email protected] He is very nice and has contributed much to our Adair site. He is a part of the Novinger Renewal and will answer your question. We are in the process (at our own pace) of working together on histories of towns in Adair. But we are making them short to encourage people to buy their books. I have been careful not to put the info from those two books (and other info) on the Adair site. because: 1.. copyright laws, new papers are copyrighted. http://stellar-one.com/copyrightgenealogy/ 2.. most importantly, the Novinger Renewal uses the book to make money for their non-profit Coal miner museum and other activities for us. I believe in free access to our families history and I don't normally provide information for things sold, but historical societies and such are, in my mind, different than profit making. They are important resources for us, as apposed to places that sell what we gather. Hope this helps. I understand your feeling of wanting to share. *smile* Best wishes, Claudia www.rootsweb.com/~moadair www.rootsweb.com/~moknox ----- Original Message ----- From: "CL Krajnik" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, August 10, 2003 2:23 PM Subject: [Adair Co, MO] Hello > Help.
