Going through some old notes, I found the following about a murder trial in Brashear, Adair County, that I thought someone might be interested in. Kirksville Weekly Graphic, February 6, 1903 - The Robertson Trial Murder of George Conkle of Brashear Prosecuting attorney: John M. Robertson accompanied his wife, daughter of Conkle, from Kirksville to Brashear; went to Brashear Bank and asked if George Conkle's name on a note for $150 would be good; was told it was; asked cashier to fill it out; Robertson took note for Conkle to sign; left bank and went to Thrasher's store; went to door and called Conkle out; all three walked north to Northwest corner of square; Robertson asked Conkle to sign note; Conkle refused and Robertson shot him Robertson's testimony: said Conkle drew a knife and made toward him; he drew revolver but had no recollection of shooting him; denied he went to Brashear to kill Conkle Verdict of murder in the 1st degree; motion for new trial overruled; appeal to supreme court Violette's History of Adair County, page 499, says of George Conkle: "He was killed November 13, 1902, on the streets of Brashear, by his son-in-law, Mr. Robertson, who was afterwards executed for the deed".
