    3. Adair and Knox lists, FYI: It's about 7:00 PM, June 28, 2001 and rootsweb seems to be down at the moment. Below (at the bottom of this email) are a couple of messages I received. This happens every time there is an election with the USGenWeb project. I agree with the first message from Leona L. Gustafson. Most, if not all, of the people/volunteers with the USGenWeb project are just that .... people/volunteers and not associated with rootsweb, Ancestry.com, MyFamilyInc.Com, or anyone other than the USGenWeb project. None of us receive any money and are not asking for any. We do it for you, on our own time for free! *smile* I don't see much we can do about it. But as I stated before, I will do everything I can to protect "Our Adair and Knox County data"! Including, if needed, placing it on my own server, so that it is always available for you for free! It has cost me several hundred dollars to provide info on "Our Adair and Knox County sites", but I would rather spend my money there, than buy those CD's that may contain bogus and un proved information. Note: I resent people who take the genealogy research I have done and send it to them. I want to have control over and protect my family, especially those that are still alive. That is the main reason all the cemetery, census, etc. data is now in PDF format. So that someone can't come in and cut and past all the data, stealing it to sell, that many of you helped transcribe. Most of the information I have personally gathered for my own genealogy has been thru contacting people like you thru email and USGenWeb County sites. I feel it is more trustworthy data. I have always found 99% of people to be giving, friendly, and helpful and I hope to always be that way too. *smile* If you every have any questions or need help I will always try and help you. BUT always, please look on "Our Adair and Knox County sites" before you email me. I place everything I have on those sites. Two of our translators/volunteers RitaJane and Michele have been sending me photos they have taken of tombstones in Adair cemeteries. I have added those photos to our cemetery page. I hope these photos of tombstones are helpful for you. If you have photos you can send them to me and I will place them there. Please be patient with me. *smile* They will not be PDF files so you can right click on them and save a copy. I have made the file size as small as I can so that you can read them (at least most of them) and so that they down load as quickly as possible. In most cases I have retyped the names and dates just in case you can't read them. Michele has also added a suggestion for our sites to update, add and/or correct information. You can see her suggestion on the census page. It is a way you can help make "Our Adair and Knox county" valuable sites with "real" information. Your efforts are appreciated by many and will be for generations to come. *smile* When you send data to Michele, me or others, PLEASE always let the person know why you are sending the info. For "Our Adair or Knox Co. sites" or what ever your purpose is. I personally get too many emails to try and guess. *grin* If I or anyone associated with "Our Adair or Knox Co. sites" every misses placing your data, or does not respond to your email, it is not on purpose. Just politely remind us after a week of not hearing from one of us. We don't mind. Our intentions are good and we're only human. *smile* I'm still working on a CD that will be available as a companion to the "Our Adair site" and eventually will do one for Knox. It will include all that is available on "Our Adair and Knox County sites". I just thought people would like a copy for themselves. It will be as low a cost as I can make it. I have no intentions on making money off of you. The information will (as long as I am able to protect it) be on "Our Adair and Knox Co. sites". I just want to protect and make available all the work we have done together for us and generations to come. Copies will be given to the Adair and Knox County Libraries and Historical Societies. I'm still trying to work out the details of how to present the information on the CD so that it is easy for you to use and can be used by those who have Mac computers. I don't know when I will have it completed but if information you would like to have on it is not on "Our Adair or Knox County sites", please email me with it and I will make sure it is included. That includes any census additions (see Michele's idea on census page) and additions to the cemetery info, especially after 1979. The tombstone photos will also be included on the CD, so send yours if you would like. I would like to add more history and information to our town pages. If you have information or history of towns in Adair and Knox county please send it to me. Your little bits of information all make up "Our Adair and Knox sites". All is important and valuable information. I don't want personal genealogy other than census and cemetery info. If you want to post that type of info, you can post it here: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=Localities.United-20-Stat es.States.Missouri.Counties.Adair click on: Message Boards then: Localities then: North America then: United States then: States then: Missouri then: Counties then: Adair You will see listings of posts for Adair. You can search thru them, post a reply to one of them, or post a new one. It's a pain. *sigh* I still haven't figured out what rootsweb did to it. They say they will shortly add the ability for users to filter by message category within a message board (for queries, obituaries, deeds, etc.). I hope they do. "Our Adair and Knox Co sites" will be updated later so you can go to that category. For now we will have to put up with what they have given us. You might also want to read the letters to the editor of the Kirksville Daily Express. (links on first page of "Our Adair site") They deal with the proposed Veterans Memorial in Kirksville. I and several people who have emailed me are very concerned about this project. I have a lot to say but will reserve my opinion. Read the letters and make up your own mind. A page dedicated to the people from Adair County who served our armed forces: http://www.rootsweb.com/~moadair/War.htm Best wishes to you all and your genealogy search, Claudia Minor Coordinator for Adair and Knox Counties ... USGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~moadair http://www.rootsweb.com/~moknox ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FYI: It's about 7:00 PM, June 28, 2001 and rootsweb seems to be down at the moment. If you should want to look at the candidates running for office and/or give me your feedback as to who you would support, click here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgwelections/candidates.html If your really interested in the USGenWeb project OR if your really board. *smile* take a glance at this: http://www.radix.net/~merope/dbs.htm These are the messages I received that I am referring to above: Attacking the Election Committee and the candidates is no answer to the current situation. I really have to wonder if those who are calling for the USGenWeb to purchase it's own server has ANY idea what the cost of such a venture is. Yes, we were stabbed in the back. So was every candidate and member of the Election Committee. They are all CCs and/or message board administrators. The RootsWeb staff had no say in this either. The fault and the blame lie at the doorstep of MyFamilyInc.Com. That's where to send complaints. You might start with Greg Parkinson at [email protected] . He has taken a lot of heat from me. And he has also given me a lot of assistance is what can only be termed another chaotic period in the USGenWeb Project. Happy hunting! Leona L. Gustafson ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear Ms. Haas Davenport: Since you still have your server on rootsweb.com, and each and every County Coordinator has had the knife placed in their back, why would anyone want to vote in this election? Until you remove your election boards from this server, where "we" have no control; I for one, am against this election, "at this time." I would like to know how each and every candidate feels about the current situation at Ancestry/MyFamily.com. The candidates need to either express or be asked what their feelings are on this mess, and then the project membership vote accordingly. Cordially, Ruth Atteberry Adams Atoka County Coordinator ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Linda Haas Davenport wrote: Dear USGenWeb Project Volunteer: The USGenWeb Project's annual election begins Jul 1, 2001. As a volunteer you are eligible to vote in this election. On July 1st the Election Committee will be sending you your voter ID password. Please watch for that e-mail as you will need the password to be able to vote. For more information on the Election please visit the Election Committee's web site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgwelections/ This is an announce only message. If you wish to respond or comment please go to the web page above. Linda Haas Davenport Chair, USGenWeb Election Committee
