    1. [Adair Co, MO] Gilson family in 1860.
    2. John Gilson, born 1814, is in the Columbiana Co. Ohio census in 1850 with son James age 7 (b.1843), (no wife). It is likely this child was either James P. McKaig or a son of John & Mary Ann Ruffe. Mrs. Sarah McKaig, whom he married Feb.06,1851, at Columbiana Co. Ohio. is enumerated very close to John in 1850, just a few houses away. At Black Creek, Stafford Twp. Greene Co. Indiana in 1860 John and Sarah are listed on the census, along with three children listed as Gilson. The children were; Elizabeth Ann b. 1841 Ohio, William Allen b. 1843 Ohio and James P. b. 1845 Ohio. One of the children James Patrick McKaig is thought to be the child of Sarah & John McKaig. Elizabeth & William Allen could be the children of John & (Mary Ann Ruffe) Gilson. James Patrick McKaig is noted as later being married in Greene Co. in the 1870's. I have not found the fate of Sarah, but in 1862 John Gilson marries again to Edney Hunter, daughter of Andrew & Sydney (Stalcup) Hunter. There are several children born presumably in Greene Co. including my Grandfather Joshua. The children Millicent Ann - 1862, George - 1864, Joshua - 1866 and Oliver Perry - 1867 were all born in Indiana prior to the family moving on to Adair County Missouri. In Aug.1868, John Gilson Jr. was born, but I am not sure where. I lost the family in 1870 (census), The family shows up again in 1880 at Adair County, MO. where the family now shows Mary Alice - 1875, Daniel Martin - 1876 and Thomas Levi - 1878 who were all born in Adair Co. Missouri. According to Mary Alice, the family moved from MO. to Nebraska City. NE. in 1879. However we still find John & Edna listed on the 1880 Adair Co. MO. census. I believe shortly after 1880 the family moved from MO. to Four Mile Prescient in Otoe Co. Nebraska, where John may have died. In 1885 Edna is listed on the Nebraska State census as living in Four mile Prescient as a widow. This indicates that John died probably at four mile prescient in Otoe Co. Nebraska, between 1880 and 1885. There were indications that the family had moved into the town of Nebraska City, prior to 1900 with or without John. I have never found the date or location of John Gilson's death, but we presume he died at either Four Mile Prescient or Nebraska City, NE. around 1881. The burning question; John Gilson died between 1880 & 1885 ---If there were burials in Wyuka Cemetery in the 1870's, why isn't John buried there as other Gilson's are ?
