    1. Looking for family from Kirksville
    2. elista
    3. Hi, I'm just new to this list and hope I can find some help with this elusive family. This is what I know. John F. Miller had a harness shop in Kirksville in the early 1900's. He married a Mary Geary, I do not know when, but am guessing it to be before 1903, as that is when their first and only child was born - Lucille Miller on Nov. 13, 1903. Is there any way I could find the marriage information? Lucille Miller married a C. A. Bisson, again, I do not know when, or where, but am guessing before 1933, when their only child was born - John Edward Bisson on Mar. 4, 1933. I know when John F. Miller died - Aug. 13, 1947, age 70 years. I would like to find out when his wife, Mary, died. I do know that John is buried in the Rothville cemetery in Chariton Co. but his wife is not buried there. I would love to find living relatives if possible, the son - John Edward - could still be alive, or if he had a family. I could not find this family on any census records, but do not know if I was looking in the right place. Any help or suggestions would be so appreciated. Is there a Kirksville history book or anything that might have info on John F. MIller or his harness shop? I have an old photo of it and it was quite large. Do these names ring a bell with anyone? Thanking you in advance, Sincerely, Judy in Alberta, Canada

    3. The state of Missouri is in the process of putting all birth an death records on line from 1910 (when they began) to 1954. This will be a really great asset for genealogists. If you are interested in helping, check out the site below and read item number 4. The state is scanning the death records, but they need help with typing up the index to those records so they can set up an online searchable index. Copies of pages of the index will be sent to volunteers to type up. http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/birthdeath/deathFAQ.asp Thought you would like to know. Claudia Minor - Adair and Knox

    1. Saner-Bougher- Willis-Wilds
    2. Cheryl
    3. Hello, Thanks for the replies and help on my great grandmother Martha E Willis-Wilds Saner Bougher. I have spent abt $60 at the Missouri vital records department and numours letters back and forth looking for Martha's Willis-Wilds Saner Bougher death Cert. They cant find one. That is why I need someone to contact for information at the GREENCASTLE Sullivan Missouri Cemetery. May be they have a records of who the Martha Saner is buried in their cemetery. I have searched the 1880 census looking for a 3 yr old Martha Willis or Wilds( I have a set of 1880 census CD here at home from the LDS church) And found 3 or 4 who might fit her age of 3 but none with father of Irish ancestry as told to me by my grandmother (born 1896-1984 )Mamie Saner Stokes, Martha's daughter. Grandmother Mamie looked very much like her Mother with her freckles and redbrown hair and her mothers dark complexion and green eyes. (per family photos and family letters) Martha's mother was reported to be a Indian. Her father Irish I have been able to find various legal paperwork of Jacob Saner with members of the Kirksville and Stahl communities for various land/timber sales. He was a prosperous lumber/sawmill owner-operator. Had many contract with the RR and other bridge building enterprises. But can not find a connection to any Willis or Wilds yet. I have been able to document the Saners line back to 1810 and Westmoreland Penn also the Stinson line, Jacobs wife's line, back to 1755 and Vermont. No Wilds or Willis there. I guess this means a vacation for genealogy research in Kirksville-Stahl for me and the hubby. That ought to go over like a big lead balloon. Will check out the websites you all sent to see if they differ from what I have already checked out. I guess I will be spending my overtime Christmas paycheck from the post office on genealogy again this year. Again thanks for the help Cheryl Stokes Krajnik

    3. Hello fellow researcher, Merry Christmas, I have a research problem I would like to share abt my ggrandparents in hopes someone out there has suggestions for HELP. What is Know: 1) Martha WILLIS mrd William SANER Nov 27 1889, in Adair. Martha not quite 13ys old. Will was 21. Williams father Jacob Saner giving permission for both stating he was legal guardian for Martha. 2) Martha Elizabeth was born Feb 1877 per 1900 Adair Mo Census living with husband William SANER & 3 children Effie, Amie (my grandmother Mamie) Dale SANER. born MO as was Parents. 3) Divorced Will Saner abt 1901 early 1902 4) Martha WILDS mrd William A BOUGHER May 14 1903 in Adair Mo 4a) William SANER mrd Ella M Chadeayne Aug 1902 5) Martha Elizabeth was living with 2nd husband WA BOUGHER in 1910 Adair MO Census and her 3 children. WA was 34 mrd 2nd time born IA as was parents. 6) Greencastle Sullivan Co Cem has a Martha SANER buried there with tombstone dated 1877-1913. 6a) Was told by grandmother Mamie SANER STOKES, wife of Ora STOKES that Martha died in Oct of 1913. Went to Salt Lake in Oct and did some research and I have found no film or books with information on guardianship of Martha Elizabeth WILLIS or WILDS to Jacob SANER. I have found no film or books with divorce information for Martha E and 1st husband William SANER I have not found William A BOUGHER in 1920 census in Missouri. What happened to him? Missouri has not been able to find a death Certificate for Martha E Willis-Wilds-Saner-Bougher between 1910 and 1915 looking in 6 surrounding counties of Adair. This is were the help is needed I need who to write to and a address for the GREEN CASTLE SULLIVAN CEM or city hall. Hopefully I can get information abt the Martha Saner buried there. What are the most likely funeral homes and address I could write to in either Sullivan or Adair MO where some records of her funeral was held. News papers in print back in 1913 in Adair, Kirksville, Stahl or Greencastle area so I could write to them? Would the Missouri Historical society have any of this information? Newspapers on film. Do lookups? How well stocked with local information is the Family History Centers in Kirksville, Greencastle? Any other suggestions for research would be most helpful. This ggrandmother is the only direct line that has dead ended on me before the mid 1700. Thank you very much Cheryl Stokes Krajnik Nampa ID

    3. Hello Everyone, With Christmas upon us in only 2 days and with the celebrations of several other religious holidays being so close date-wise, please note that we will soon be seeing many new subscribers to the list. These people will also be putting queries on the message boards. They will, undoubtedly, make many mistakes. We were all newbies once, and I (for one) wrote many a query before I got the hang of things... like surnames being put in capital letters, for example. Some of the newbies may even be new to genealogy. And, unfortunately, some of them will expect that they can find all of their families' information on the internet. So, please be patient, and help them learn. One of them might even end up being your very own cousin! Thanks for your cooperation. Merry Christmas! Leslie (Bridges) Kohler - List Administrator

    1. HR10 - Will restrict access to birth records, even county and state
    2. Andy or Annie Utick
    3. Hello, fellow researchers, I've recently learned of a bill moving swiftly through the U. S. House of Representatives that would severely restrict our access to birth records, even those kept by counties and states, in the name of "security." We genealogists (and any other citizens) would have access only if we are the "registrant" (it's our own record), or are named in the document. If we don't meet those criteria, we would have to meet "minimum standards for issuance of a birth certificate to specific family members, their authorized representatives, and others who demonstrate that the certificate is needed for the protection of the requestor's personal or property rights." You might be interested in reading the actual language of this bill. It can be found at http://thomas.loc.gov./ Put in the number of the bill (HR10) on the home page, where it says "Bill Number." Once on the page where the bill starts, find the part about birth records using "Find on this page." It is my understanding that David Rencher, Chairman of the Record Access and Preservation Committee, a joint committee of the National Genealogical Society and Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS), has sent a letter to the bill's sponsor, Congressman Dennis Hastert, recommending an amendment to the bill as follows: "However, nothing in this Chapter 2 shall be construed to require a State to change its law with respect to public access to (A) non-certified copies of birth certificates, or to (B) birth certificates or birth records once a period of 100 years has elapsed from the date of creation of the certificate or record." A copy of the entire letter is available on the FGS site at www.fgs.org/rpa/formalactions.htm. Because this bill is moving toward passage so quickly, it is urged that the genealogical community take action immediately and let their representatives know that they are in support of David Rencher's proposed amendment and the FGS position in this important matter.
