I am looking to see if a John O'Brien is buried in Adair Co. He was born circa 1841 in Ireland and died post-1910. One daughter was Margaret O'Brien Pollock. He lived with Margaret and her husband Daniel in the 1910 census at Ninevah Township. Thanks...Paul Wright -- Open WebMail Project (http://openwebmail.org)
I am trying to locate Noah Sylvester May's wife. Is she buried in Novinger Cemetery with him? Her name was Rowena Mae (Martin) May. I don't know when she died. Noah died 30 April 1967 and his obituary said Rowena died about 20 years before him. Could someone check Novinger Cemetery for Noah and Rowena's headstone and dates? Thank you for any help. Hi All, I am not only new to this list, but new to Missouri. I am an Aussie trying to help a Canadian friend trace her American ancestry and I am hoping someone can point us in the right direction. Her Grandfather was Frederick Hartzler SMITH born May 31, 1884 in Kirksville. What she would like to know is: Would she be able to get a birth certificate for this period especially as she has no idea who his parents were. If birth certificates are not available for this period, then where or how were births registered/recorded in 1884? I found Frederick on the 1920 Census but have not been able to find him on any earlier ones. I was hoping that the earlier census, particularly around 1900 would give us more clues. Any help or advice would be more than welcome. Regards Sue Perth Western Australia.

Martha Malissa Osborne (my g-grandfather) lived/ worked on the Stukey farm near Millard. I remember Dr. Grover Stukey and Lewis Osborne (my grandfather) when they worked on the Cemetary records and the perpetual care. Also remember stories they told on each other growing up. Grover Stukey was the ONLY person my grandmother ever allowed to smoke cigars in her house. Am seeking information on Martha. Perhaps hidden away in the Stukey records there is information about her. Anyone who has information please contact me. Would like to be put in contact with whoever now looks after the cemetary -- I have not been back there since 1994. Dave, Adair County was formed in 1841. In 1820, part of it was in Pike County and part was in Howard County. By 1830, its land was partly in Randolph County and partly in Chariton County. As of 1840, all of what is now Adair County was part of the larger Macon County. With Putman County boadering Adair County on the north, maybe the family moved twice, just not far each time? Hope this helps. Hello Gayle, Although I have not had the time to research there on my trips to date, the library on the campus of Truman State University (my Alma Mater) houses a collection of micro-film and other genealogical materials... including reels of film of the local newspaper. This library is located just east of Franklin Street and just NE of the Student Union. There is a parking lot (with some visiotrs' parking) on the west side of the building, which can be accessed from Franklin Street. The public library has a genealogy room, as well, though it is not as well stocked. And, you may well want to check the historical society's collection. I have never personally seen it. But, I do know that the hours there are very limited. (Wish I had written them down so that I could give them to you.) Many counties published "Histories of ---- County" around 1880 - 1900. Does Adair County have such a book? Is there anyone who lives in Adair County who would be willing to do a look-up for me? Specifically - John McKenney/McKinney and his wife, Nancy, moved to Adair County between 1850 and 1960. John died there in 1871 and Nancy late in 1880. Both are buried in Moots Cemetery. Many of their children were married in the county and continued to live there. It is possible that one of the McK*nneys might be mentioned in such a history book. The two sons' names were (1) William McK*nney and (2)Andrew McK*nney. The daughters' names were (1) Mary Jane (McKenney) Harris (2) Susannah (McKenney) Swinford (3) Rebecca (McKenney) Collop/Colup and (4) Louisa C./Theresa C. McKenney. Any marriage unknown. The second possibility is that there could have been obits for either John or Nancy. Especially for Nancy since she died when long flowery obits were becoming common. Is there anyone in Adair County who would be able to find such information for me. I would (of course!) be willing to pay! I live 2000 miles away and just don't think I'll be anywhere near Missouri in the near future. Any help would be so much appreciated. Thank you so much. Jody McKenney Thomson
