Hello Everyone, Recently I was checking the census (for fun) for some already-known information about my husband's family. As is not unusual, I found a whopper of a mistake. So, I am sending in the information in case anyone is interested. 1910 Benton Township, Kirksville, Adair County, Missouri - 110 East Normal Avenue WISE, Louis A. (Head of Household) WISE, Essie (wife) KOHLER, Leona (step-daughter) KOHLER, Julia M. (step-daughter) KOHLER, Ordell H. (step-son) KOHLER, Harley S. (step-son) To anyone who did not know these people, it would seem that Leona, Julia, Ordell, and "Harley" all had the same father. "Harley" was actually Charlie, and his surname was DOWNING. You see, Louis WISE was Essie's (nee GLENN) 3rd husband. Charles Samuel "Chuck" DOWNING (1904- 1956) was my father-in-law's half-brother. I will be putting this information out on numerous message boards and also leaving a correction note on Ancestry.com. Leslie Kohler (lived in Kirksville 1968-1976) .
What records exist and is there a web site for on line work. I need data on Peter Booth/ BOOTHE and wife, Wm. WINN especially his death probably before 1850, Any SAMUELS in the area, Brassfield,Bramblet and Deardorf. Hi Claudia, thank you for the information about the court houses. I really appreciate it. Since my Mother was born in 1906, I guess I am out of luck. My grandmother was married in Connelsville in 1904 and I have a certificate, but it does not have any witness information on it, or signed so I thought if I could find the original one it would be great. I am trying to find out information about my side of the family. William Megrew (Mcgrew) had a daughter Rebecca MeGrew who married William Hall and they lived on William Megrew's farm for awhile. The had three children there, one Bertie (Bert C. Hall) and he married my Grandmother Ora Maud Goucher in Connelsville. So I guess my G Grandfather Stephen Goucher and wife Rachel Isabell Oswalt lived there too, or surounding areas. If you can find any information on these people in newspapers or records, I would appreciate it. I will pay for anything you find. I have found the birth record of Bert Hall and a death certificate on their first child Clifford who died. Thank you for any information you might have. You might try for a Delayed or Special Certificate of Birth. My mother was born 1905 in Macon County, but got her delayed birth certificate in Adair County in 1953. The certificate is from the State Registrar of Vital Statistics in Jefferson City, MO. --- cminor <[email protected]> wrote: > The State has documents before, they just aren't on > line. > Try emailing them. > > You might also try asking the Adair County > Historical Society: > http://www.adrcohs.org/ > They will charge a small fee if they find > something. > > Claudia > > [email protected] wrote: > Hi Claudia, thank you for the information about > the court houses. I was told that marriage records were sent to the state after 1900 and that later there was a fire at the statehouse which destroyed some records. I'm looking for a Evans/Moss license from the same period and area. and I, too, will try the SOS site mentioned. Good luck. Lafonne J. Taylor
The State has documents before, they just aren't on line. Try emailing them. You might also try asking the Adair County Historical Society: http://www.adrcohs.org/ They will charge a small fee if they find something. Pat, Adair County, Missouri has had 3 court houses. The second Adair County, Missouri, Court house burned. Fire destroyed this courthouse April 12, 1865, and the county remained without a courthouse for 30 years. For may of these years, the public square was known as the "Park." An illustration from the atlas of 1876 shows a portion of the square filled with a geometric pattern of trees. http://www.rootsweb.com/~moadair/pictures/ThanksCraig.htm The third and present Adair County courthouse dates from the turn of the century. I believe there was a fire in this courthouse too but didn't distroy the whole building. Click here to read more: http://www.rootsweb.com/~moadair/history.htm You might try the State of Missouri. They house birth and death records. The state of Missouri is in the process of putting all birth an death records on line from 1910 (when they began) to 1954. http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/ There are links to images through 1920 (will eventually all be there) and they will send you photocopies of the others for only $1.00 each! Or try The Missouri State Historical Society: http://shs.umsystem.edu/index.shtml You may have to write, but they do have many records. Try this page for links to possibilities: http://www.rootsweb.com/~moadair/resources.htm Note: Many people were born in their home and did not receive a birth certificate. Example: My father was born (1920) in his grandmothers home and did not receive a birth certificate until he was around 20, and had to have people verify his place of birth in order to get one. Hi I am looking for a birth certificate on my Mother and a marriage certificate on my Grandmother from Connelsville, Adair, Mo. and I was under the impression that the court house burned down years ago and that was why my Mother could not get a birth certificate. I wrote someone who said that a courthouse never burned down in this area. Where do I go to find out this information. I have looked on Ancestry.com, Rootsweb and can never find out anything. Grandmother Ora Maud Goucher married Bert (Bertie) C. Hall 27 Jun 1904 and daughter born Rebecca Isabell (Reabell) Hall born 07 June 1906 or 1907. I would appreciate any information you can give me. Thank you, Pat [email protected] ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
Hi Lists, I just found a note in my files that list a JOHN CRABTREE, b. Apr. 07, 1786 VA. Brother of WILLIAM HUMBERSTON WHEELON CRABTREE. With a name like that, how can we miss ? Anyway, my real interest is in John's wife WINFRED (or Winnie) GILSTRAP, b. Aug. 12, 1796 in NC, daughter of BENJAMIN. JOHN & WINNIE CRABTREE were married Sep. 24, 1812 at Wayne Co. KY. They resided at Putnum Co. MO. prior to 1870's. I have seen the name GILSTRAP associated with the name GILSON of who I am descended from and who also lived in Putnum, Co. MO in the late 1870's. My G-Grandfather JOHN GILSON, b. 1814 at Columbiania Co. Ohio, had moved to Putnum Co. MO. for a short time and soon moved to Adair County where he is listed on the 1880 Adair Co. Census. Anyone know if there is a connection ? To: <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Is there anyone on this list with ready access to the old marriage data, who could possibly look up an marriage record for me? The marriage was between Joseph Brosius and Fannie Palmer, and took place at Wyaconda on Feb. 20, 1881. I am double-checking the bride's maiden name, as it is different on her death certificate, which I suspect might just be an error. Anyway, I checked with Clark Co., Lewis Co., Scotland Co., and Knox Co., and none of them have this record. The lady in the clerk's office at Knox suggested I try Adair. Many thanks for any help, A. The funeral home may well be in Clarence, which is not in Adair County. Novinger is in Adair County. I believe Clarence may be in Shelby County. It is between Shelbina and Macon MO. Thank you Claudia, I consider my pickups from abstracted(second hand)secondary census etc unproven., so much of my data is unproven and oral( said by) and submitted as such. I now must even include the death certicates on line as I have a couple where the informant(a married spouse/kin)gave erronious data.
