"A picture of St. Louis streets in 1905 would show horses drawing the buggies, the carriages, the farmers' wagons, the delivery wagons, the ice wagons, and every other vehicle except the street car by means of which the people got about and carried on their industry and protected the city from fire and dirt. The Mayor of St. Louis at that time was Rolla Wells.and Washington University was moved to its present site west of Skinker Road.
