I don't remember when the Wooden Street cars retired, but if I remember correctly the reason people were not electrocuted is because the wires were above the cars and did not go to the rails. You could stand on the rails and not be hurt. There was no third rail like subways. Also on some of the older lines the cars did not turn around, when the car reached the end of the line the motorman stopped the car and then walked to the back and that became the front of the car and he resumed his route. Some of the old cars used to have a coal stove in them in the winter for heat. Lew
