Hi Carol: Ahh, but the joy was finding all those treasures. Did you know that U City has a Very Big Time gangster buried in one of the cemeteries out there? Not only was he a gang leader he had the sole distinction of being the very last man to be hung in Illinois. His name was Charlie Birger. They then went to that very humane device, "The Electric Chair." I remember the smoldering ash pits of U City of the mid forties when I had a paper route out there.----Jim ---------------------------------------------------------- I lived on Melville Ave. in U. City 1952-1958. Behind the houses was an alley, and in the alley each house had an ash pit. The ash pit was used to burn burnable trash. Garbage, i.e. food and wet waste, went into the garbage can and was picked up by the city. Carol Rederer Achtman Palo Alto, CA
My ggg-grandmother is Jane BRADY and I believe she was from Scotland. She was born about 1820 and she married a man named Alexander MIDDLETON. (I am not real positive of the name Alexander) Their children were all born in New York. Jane Middleton about 1847 James Middleton about 1843 William Middleton about 1845 Margaret Middleton about 1849 Sometime after 1849, they moved to Daviess County, Missouri and then Jane Middleton (b:1847) moved to St. Louis, Missouri and married Patrick Kenney. If any have any information that matches this, please get in touch with me. I would be happy to exchange information. Thanks Sherry
Hi, Sherry, I am 25% Scottish and have lots of Scottish genealogy sites that might help you. I will be sending you some stuff off list but am posting this to the list in case other list members need some Scottish help as well.
