We could have had this conversation before, but I couldn't find it in the archives. How trustworthy is the information on a naturalization record? For example, the birth information? That information was relayed directly from the person being naturalized, to the person taking the information, right? Or, was it all done via paper (person being naturalized filled out the paper and sent it in/handed it in, etc.) and there is room for error (this is the era of 1905-1910)? What about the witnesses? What role did they play, exactly? Did they have to be there with them? Did they just have to sign their name? And, what was their purpose? Was it to verify that these people were "stand-up" citizens, or that their name really was what they said, or what? (Sorry...so many questions! I just found my first Naturalization Record that I have needed, thus far...) Thanks for any insight! Michelle muesic1@aol.com
