Happy New Year to all of you! Just wanted to give everyone a heads up about the problems we are having with some of the spam blocking software. Many of our list members have been unsubscribed from the list automatically by Rootsweb because the mail going to them has "bounced" (been returned) too many times. This creates a strain on the mail servers. If you use some type of spam blocking software please make sure to list MO-STLOUIS-METRO-L@rootsweb.com for those on the regular list and MO-STLOUIS-METRO-D@rootsweb.com for those on the digest list as acceptable mail to receive. If you do not do that, you may end up being removed from the list because of too many emails bouncing back to the servers. I am trying to let you know individually when I see this happening. You will get an email from me that will say something about bounces in the subject or that I am checking to see if you email works at all as we are also getting a high number of bounces that say the email is not valid. There is nothing I or RootsWeb can do about this. RootsWeb staff have contacted several ISP providers but you the clients of those ISP providers have more clout that we do. You do not need to contact your ISP provider until we see there is a problem and when we do, I will send you and individual email behind the scenes. Many of you have received one of these already. This past week it has gotten worse for many of the lists (ours has been pretty good so far compared to what we are hearing from others). Feel free to drop me line if you ever get unsubscribed by the server subscription robot. You can always resubscribe but if your mail is being rejected it doesn't help until the real problem is addressed. Spam blocking is something many of us do. Myself included. But we need to make sure that we are not blocking mail we want. Make sure to set your acceptable list to include this list and any others you are on. If you do miss mail, or want to see if you are missing mail, you can always check the archives at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/MO-STLOUIS-METRO for those in date order Or to look up a topic from the past go to http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=MO-STLOUIS-METRO for the searchable archives. Thanks! Laura
