    1. Re: [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] Housing in St. Louis
    2. Jim, I see some addresses that I recognize. The neighborhood around Sarah and Natural Bridge is not one where I would suggest you go knocking on doors! I drove by my gm's house (4029 Labadie) and it was a shambles, boarded up. Across the street were burned-out ruins. My cousins were appalled that we had gone there! I left in 1943 (4133 West Lexington) and my father fled to Normandy soonafter. I would go during the day because that is always safer than the night. I would also bring copies of any older pictures you have of the house. Then knock on the doors and let the people living there now know who you are and give them the copies for their own enjoyment and to show that you aren't a lunatic. Then ask them if they mind if you take a photo of their house. That is what I always do. I have had some even invite me inside to take photos of the rooms. I usually decline that though for safety reasons. Most people are always interested in seeing old pictures and hearing stories of their houses. In fact I am in contact with several people who live in houses my ancestors used to. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: James Weisheyer<mailto:[email protected]> > To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> > Sent: Saturday, May 07, 2005 11:03 PM > Subject: [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] Housing in St. Louis > > > Dear List Members, > > I am visiting St. Louis for a few days in June and I > hope to take as many pictures as I can of the houses > my family lived in prior to 1960. 3. Yeah I would stay clear entirely of neighborhoods like that. I have always never felt safe in those kinds of areas. I have been lucky that most of my ancestors houses that are still up from the St. Louis area are in Webster Groves. ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, May 08, 2005 12:53 AM Subject: Re: [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] Housing in St. Louis Jim, I see some addresses that I recognize.
