    3. Dear MomRip, I am going on my rapidly failing memory. When I wanted copies of the St. Louis Police Dept.'s records, I was told that unless the person was collecting a pension or actively employed at a certain date, all prior records had been lost/destroyed-something like that. I think the year was 1956 for the cut off. Anyway, all three of mine were either collecting a pension (my grandfather died in 1961, my grandmother's 1/2 brother died in 1959) and my uncle was still a cop in 1959. What I got were photocopies of a card with date of hire, promotions, residence, retirement date, badge number. My grandfather was 67 years old when he retired and didn't have to qualify for the gun stuff-sort of scary. There were also photographs attached to the employment record but looking at my grandfather's and my grandmother's 1/2 brother, they were taken later in their careers. The address that I have from July 2001 for the police records is: St. Louis Metro Police Detp. Police Headquarters 1200 Clark Ave. St. Louis MO 63103-2845 (314)444-5555 and (314) 444-5590 Sharon Browning If you have fireman, you can write or call the following as of July 2001: Dept. of Public Safety Headquarters Complex 1421 N. Jefferson St. Louis MO 63106-2100 (314) 533-3406 Robert Pauly Since your relative may have been a policeman prior to 1910, the St. Louis Public Library has a book called "History of the Metropolitan Police Department of St. Louis 1810-1910 which has pictures of police officers and for some, a brief biography. The index to the book was published the St. Louis Genealogical Society's quarterly but I don't know where my copy is at this time. The pictures seem to go in somewhat alphabetical order for the pages that I have. Email Kathy Smith at the library. If you need a lookupon the index, I could try to find the quarterly but it might take awhile. The pages I have, have names that start with F and L plus a few Cs. What is the name of your relative?
