My Dear Mr. Brasher; Yes, 'tis I, the old Mr. Kilby of yore. Odd, I was just responding to an Irish lass named Erin T. Crowe who is a proud member of the rootsweb list "International Society of Black Sheep Society of Genealogists". To join, you must prove ancestor/ancestress activity in illegal and immoral or otherwise unacceptable behaviour. I had just responded to her and recalled to her your very salacious tales of yore regarding your hoodlum blood-lines. Now, as to Ms. Laughlin....yes she was the first ELECTED Veiled Prophet Queen, something her father Judge Laughlin rigged on her behalf....and this was in the, say 1880s. Yes, she married an Italian naval attache and diplomat, later moved to Rome, and there apparently committed suicide. A very sordid story. The St. Louis papers were awash in the details. Nothing like a good society scandal. I regret to learn of late that my contact with this family has been de-linked due to a change in his email address. I will have to find him in Texas again. But I do recall one fabulous fall afternoon with him and his wife picnicking (against all rules) at the cemetery (oh, someone please help me out here, the name escapes me....the "big" one on Kingshighway where all the St. Louis hoo-hahs are buried)--the one next to Cavalry. Between Fee Fee Baptist Church Cemetery and that one above, we put all the peices back in order. It was a great day out with very fun people. I had been under the impression that Mr. Laughlin's wife (the one living in Texas, not the judge) was going to compile all of this, but I don't think she ever did. I still have all of the files and I do recall the nice woman from the City Library asking for such a report (with documentation of course). It would not be fair to give them an exclusive, as much of the data I found came from the MHS. Anyway, Mr. Brasher, so good to hear from you. On a personal note, I am now still living in Virginia but will always enjoy reading about St. Louis and my St. Louis roots. I seem to remember that this young beauty faced a tragedy in Europe sometime in the late 1890s or early 1900s.
