    2. The VA required permission from the cemetery in addition to having the tombstone set. I paid the endowment and perpeptual care fee to Calvary Cemetery and a fee to a monument company that was much more than $40.00. I also hosted a party for the descendants. All told, I spent about $3,000. More than 60 people attended the graveside service . . . all related to me in some way. I only knew 2 of them prior to the event which included some reenactors from the same unit my ggf had served firing 2 volleys. The headstone was free from the government. Try to get the paper you need from a funeral home anyone can give you the papers. he even took pictures after he set it and mailed it to me.
