I think I remember.----J ----- Original Message ----- From: Diane<mailto:lilirish@earthlink.net> To: mo-stlouis-metro@rootsweb.com<mailto:mo-stlouis-metro@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 25, 2007 9:23 PM Subject: [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] can't find Butchertown article I transcribed Does anyone remember when I transcribed an article about Butchertown from the Globe Democrat into the list? I think it was around 2005. Anyyway, I have searched all over the archives of Rootsweb in both the Irish in St. Louis and the St. Louis Metro lists to try to find the two part transcription of a really nice article about Butchertown. I am looking for the link to the articles so I can put it back into this list for people who are interested in locations where butchers lived in St. Louis from around 1840 to the early 1900's. I thought it was an interesting article and would be interesting to Kate from Charlottesville. Thanks! Diane Hi all- I am researching my maternal grandmother's grandparents, Fred and Margarete Jakob. I believe I have found them on the 1910 in St Louis, MO and on the 1920 census in East St Louis, St Clair County, Illinois. I also have what I believe to be Fred Jakob's death certificate in March of 1920. He and his wife had moved back to St Louis, Missouri(1435 Missouri Ave) 28 days before he died. Fred was a Butcher on all the records I have found, it seems Margarete helped run a bakery in 1910. It looks like they lived at Chouterain Ave? I'm pretty sure Margarete and their son Fred went back to visit Austria when Fred was a child, around 1900. I find who I believe to be Fred, the butcher in St Louis in 1900, and he matches up pretty well, but he is living with a lodger, and his wife and son aren't with him. I 'm basically searching for any information about the area where they lived, possibly websites of where I could find old photos of St Louis? Also, if there are any St Louis directories online, I'd love to know where they are. :) And, I have access to Heritage Quest if anyone needs a census look up from 1790-1820 and 1860-1920, I'm happy to try to help out. Thanks!
