Joe, If the house was in the city of St. Louis, there is a way to find the information downtown at City Hall, 1200 Market St. It gets a little involved and you have to know who is living at the house currently. However, you start with the current owner and it will show when they bought it and from whom. Then, you go back to that record, look at the same type of information and just keep tracking backwards the same way you do people for genealogy. In doing this work though, the archivists told me that you are on your own tracking property, that there are not people there to help you do this, but that the records are there and available to see. As for the county, I don't know.
