    2. I had my skates till 8 years ago when we moved. What a great time we had in Rosemary Hixson's basement which was virtually empty!! I still have my Bubble-cut Barbie and the first Ken with the funky hair. And all the handmade Jackie Kennedy outfits someone in our neighborhood made for Barbie dolls and sold thru the drugstore my mother worked at. Pillbox hats and clutch purses. Hard to believe that at 10-11 I was still into Barbies.....nowadays the girls grow up too fast. Does anyone remember the Whitman books you could buy for children? All the classics with hardbound colorful covers. I still have The Five Little Peppers...Little Men...Rose in Bloom...Rin Tin Tin..and others. My grandkids look at me funny when I mention "thongs" we wore on our feet - today's flip flops. We got a new pair every summer and they were worn thin by the time school started. I remember getting one pair of Buster Brown shoes in Baden - I probably had more but I only remember the gray colored Mary Jane style ones that I absolutely loved. I still love the color gray. I now work in Baden and still think of all the stores I remember being there in the 50's - Knodels Bakery, Baden Bank, Woolworth's, Royal Drug where our doctor was located in the rear of the building. I remember the big Christmas tree at "the wedge" in Baden in front of Royal Drug. Dietrich Funeral Home. Velvet Freeze where my mother used to go as a teenager in her time and was in business up until about 6 years ago. ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

    3. Is Rosemary Hixson any relation to Dee Hixson???? Dee and her husband introduced my parents.??My daughter-in-law's mother, Gail, grew up next door to the Hixson's, I think.?? ? Was your doctor Dr. Sausville??? He was our doctor in the wedge building -- my aunt, Alvina Echelmeyer, worked for him there.??? Dr. Colpitts and then Dr. Grelle on Broadway were my dentists.?? Dr. Grelle, now near the Christian NW campus, still is.?? Lots of memories of Baden.?? I think I've mentioned before my Dad was born and raised in Calvary Cemetery.?? His parents moved out to Hornsby when I was about 5 (1948 or 49).? p.s.? Someone else mentioned Tote's Big Boy on Natural Bridge.?? My husband and I were introduced by a mutual friend when we both worked at the airport -- we used to go to lunch at Tote's all the time....it had great food.?? -- Peggy Kruse -----Original Message----- From: Lsnehring@aol.com To: mo-stlouis-metro@rootsweb.com Sent: Sat, 25 Aug 2007 6:36 pm Subject: Re: [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] Does anyone remember...
