All of you are bring up some great memories! Things I've not thought about for years. I was born in Missouri, but early we moved away. I bet all of you can still remember the peanut patties...big and cost only a nickle. Remember the Dr Pepper or Coke we bought for about the same amount. We'd take a swig of R.C. cola or grape or orange drink and then pour a package of peanuts in and take a swig and then eat the peanuts as they came to the mouth of the bottle? How about the black licorice that was my Dad's favorite. I'd eat it too, but never thought it tasted that good. Anyone but me play with the little viles that had a few drops of mercury in the bottom? One of the the boys would bring to school? We' d each get a little ball of it...roll it around or smooth it over a dime and shine it up? Wonder we didn't all die! How about the paper art? Collecting gum wrappers and making chains?... How about softball on that favorite dirt lot? How much fun to hit the ball and run around the field while someone ran off in the mesquites or bushes to locate the ball. I too remember the buster brown shoes. One day Mom said, "Don't play skp the rope with your new shoes on after school!...I was so careful...How did she know I did anyway? Thanks for the memories. I love this! Barbara Byrd Lsnehring@aol.com wrote: I had my skates till 8 years ago when we moved. What a great time we had in Rosemary Hixson's basement which was virtually empty!! I still have my Bubble-cut Barbie and the first Ken with the funky hair. And all the handmade Jackie Kennedy outfits someone in our neighborhood made for Barbie dolls and sold thru the drugstore my mother worked at. Pillbox hats and clutch purses. Hard to believe that at 10-11 I was still into Barbies.....nowadays the girls grow up too fast. Does anyone remember the Whitman books you could buy for children? All the classics with hardbound colorful covers. I still have The Five Little Peppers...Little Men...Rose in Bloom...Rin Tin Tin..and others. My grandkids look at me funny when I mention "thongs" we wore on our feet - today's flip flops. We got a new pair every summer and they were worn thin by the time school started. I remember getting one pair of Buster Brown shoes in Baden - I probably had more but I only remember the gray colored Mary Jane style ones that I absolutely loved. I still love the color gray. I now work in Baden and still think of all the stores I remember being there in the 50's - Knodels Bakery, Baden Bank, Woolworth's, Royal Drug where our doctor was located in the rear of the building. I remember the big Christmas tree at "the wedge" in Baden in front of Royal Drug. Dietrich Funeral Home. Velvet Freeze where my mother used to go as a teenager in her time and was in business up until about 6 years ago. ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MO-STLOUIS-METRO-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message --------------------------------- Park yourself in front of a world of choices in alternative vehicles. Barbara, I still love black licorice, but none of it tastes as good as the one that used to be made in StLouis. Heard they recently tore that bldg down or were going to. Think it was Switzer or something like that. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara Byrd" <barbjbyrd@yahoo.com> To: <mo-stlouis-metro@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 26, 2007 8:54 AM Subject: Re: [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] Does anyone remember... > All of you are bring up some great memories!
