I DO remember the yo-yo demos! How many remember hula hoop competitions...telephone party lines...no television! Fizzies...boy, those things were awful...and the straws with chocolate or strawberry in them you drank with milk. Playing jacks. Buster Brown Shoes. Red Goose Shoes - didn't you get a golden egg with each pair purchased? Fran had the Rag Man - we had the Boogie Man and he lived in our attic! We had one toy that has stayed around, virtually unchanged except maybe for color...Frisbees! Although I think dogs play with them more now than kids... fran vaughn <franvaughn@sbcglobal.net> wrote: Does anyone remember those little glass toys that were filled with little candy ball? Not sure, but think they cost abt. 5 cents. Also, the men that would come to school during recess, to show us how to do tricks w/ yo-yo's. I used to skate to school. Had the kind of skates that fit over my shoes & needed a key to adjust. Sure was safer, greater times & wish it was the same now. Of course I was always threatened that the 'Rag Man' would come get me if I didn't behave. We lived on a cinder street & would run barefoot after the ice-man, just to get a chunk. Was as good as ice cream. I don't remember them where you live but elsewhere. I remember the roller skates with the keys to put on shoes. I remember hul a hoops for sure . Party lines were the nightmare of those times but were interesting to keep phone calls up to date. Do you recall Silly Putty??? that was a goodie. Ah the original Barbie Dolls. Her hair was pretty bad. I decided to shorten her hair when it was fairly new. Thankfully the hair was much better on the second and following one. I remember she had a black and white striped strapless bathing suit on the first doll. With the breast size compared to the waist I guess that kept it up. Laughably they had a nurse dress outfit for her in those oldie Goldie days. I recall Ken's hair was pretty bizarre to start with and got better after his 1st run.. I remember the Barbie Car. I always wore Buster Brown Shoes. Did you have those x ray machines at the shoe store that checked your feet. Heaven only knows how harmful those great idea x rays were. My mother never would let me go near the x ray foot machine at the clothing and shoe store I went to as a kid. I recall saving RC cola caps to go to summer shows a the movie theater. You could actually play at others people houses and yards in the neighborhoods. Now everything seems to have so many safety issues from strange people. I am not sure if there are more weirdoes and children or they just did not watch them in the old days.
