    3. Hi Phil Just want to make sure you know that Bremen was a town north of StL until 1855, when it was annexed. It's now known roughly as the Hyde Park area. If you look at a map it's easy to spot. You'll notice that the streets do not run parallel to the streets in StL common. That's because they were built perpendicular to the Mississippi at its point when it was a separate town. Gary - Thanks for the info, it is both interesting and useful. Discovering that I had family in St Louis was a surprise but that area sure has a wealth of genealogy info and folks such as yourself have been exceedingly helpful. Sorry for the delay in thanking you - I was back in your neck of the woods doing a baseball tour, liking all of the trip but the humidity . . . Take care, and thank you, Phil ----- Original Message ----- From: "G STOLTMAN" <stopan@msn.com> To: "mo-stlouis-metro" <mo-stlouis-metro@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 26, 2007 8:27 PM Subject: Re: [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] Old, Old, Brewery Histories . . . > Hi Phil > > Here's a tidbit. 3. Obituary information. You can get obit information from the library in St Louis. They have them by year and then alphabetized. It is cheap to order. They have some 1800 ones and some 1900 ones. There are some gaps like in the 1920's but appreciate that ST Louis has all that information available. I think volunteers are finishing the few years not done yet. Glad some of my family is from there for genealogy research as others are almost impossible to get copies of. Death certificates which you can often print out on line or order for cheap from the State archives are also very helpful form a genealogy point of view. I obtained tons of very helpful information from the death certificates which are available from 1910 to the early 1950's. You often get the name of the deceased's maternal and paternal name and place of origin. There are also some birth information and I have only looked in St Louis for that can be obtained from the State Archives also. Missouri is a great state to do genealogy research. Other states are non existent to very limited by comparison. A great record keeping state for genealogy research hobby folks. 3. There is a biographical sketch (including a portrait) of Tobias Spengler in Hyde and Conard's Encyclopedia of the History of St. Louis (Volume IV, page 2114). If you'd like to provide your postal mailing address, I can send you a photocopy. Also, I believe this publication has been digitized by Heritage Quest. Dennis Northcott Missouri Historical Society
