    3. I am searching for descendants of the family below or relatives by marriage. So far I have not found any grandchildren for Andrew and Bertha Schneider. It appears that children Bertha and Carl did not have children by their obits. I have been unable to find Ida McDonnell who is mentioned in obits as Mrs. Roy McDonnell. I believe that Andrew is my grandfather's brother who immigrated with him and another brother Anton from Baden, Germany. The brothers parted ways after immigration and never had any further contact. I found Anton Schneider in St. Charles, MO. For years we have wondered what happened to these brothers. I have made contact with Anton's descendants but can't find any for Andrew. I would like to find a picture of Andrew - maybe some of the relatives by marriage Kiel, Schmidt, McDonnell, Bowers or Beuchel have pictures or information. 1. [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] does anyone recognize these people??
    2. I am trying to figure out if the following people were related to my relatives. Barbara SCHUMACHER (1865-1943) was a sponsor at the baptism of my great uncle Oliver William DEVINE in February 1889 at St. Kevin's Catholic Church. The following year, my great aunt Dora Phoebe REISS was a witness at the marriage of Barbara Shumacher and Robert ROLF at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Barbara was the daughter of Mathias Schumacher and Sophia BURKHARDT. Sophia later married Henry MARISCHEN after the death of Mathias Schumacher. Barbara had a relative named Johann (John) Schumacher who was also a witness at her wedding. The sister of Dora Reiss was Mathilda Reiss, my great grandmother. In January 1880 Mathilda married Thomas DEVINE at Hold Guardian Angels Church. The witnesses at their wedding were Emma WHITE and James McNAMARA. I am wondering if they are relatives. If anyone knows any connections between SCHUMACHER, BURKHARDT, WHITE or MCNAMARA with the Devine or Reiss clan, I would sure like to hear about it. 1. [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] Carl A. and May (nee Bowers) Schneider, St. Louis
    2. Kathy
    3. I am searching for the date of death of Carl A. Schneider. He was born about 1903 to Andrew and Bertha Schneider in St. Louis. He married May Bowers born 1904 in St. Louis. May died in 1992 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery. Carl preceded her in death (1937-1992). In 1937 he lived at 4561 Adelaide St. in St. Louis. I suspect he is also buried in Memorial Park Cemetery. I don't think they had any children. I am also looking for date/place of death of Carl's sister, Ida (nee Schneider) McDonnell born 1894 in St. Louis. She married a Roy McDonnell - second husband. I can't find any information on either Ida or Roy. Ida died before 1976. Several members of this Schneider family are also buried in Hiram Park/Bellerive cemetery in Creve Coeur. Any help would be appreciated. Kathy

    1. [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] Google Maps (Re: [STLOUIS-MO] St. Louis Catholic Church locations map)
    2. David Benne
    3. If there is anyone reading this who knows about JavaScript and HTML, and is preferably familiar with the Google Maps API, please contact me about a map with locations for Catholic, Lutheran and UCC Churches. Not to take anything away from the map being offered by Mr. Vernon, but there is a way to accomplish the same thing in a way that is more accessible to everyone (e.g., not having to buy software) thanks to Google. I have already plotted all or most of the church locations, with permission from Ms. Hughes, and for a short time had these maps online, however I no longer have as much time for genealogy or my website. I think the bulk of the work is done. I am seeking someone who is better with JavaScript than I am who can take this data and get it back online, free for everyone via a personal website or on a RootsWeb Freepages account. Or maybe one of the libraries could host these pages. The thing I was having trouble with was getting the maps to work with both Firefox and IE. I ended up making duplicate maps for each browser, which was fine but not ideal for maintenance purposes. I am not sure why I was having problems because I was using examples of JavaScript that worked flawlessly. Dave PS - If someone can get these maps working, it would be easy to expand upon the idea by making maps for all of the area cemeteries or other landmarks.

    1. [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] St. Louis Catholic Church locations map
    2. David Vernon
    3. Updated information: I have completed plotting more than 200 St. Louis Catholic church locations on a searchable map that uses Microsoft Streets & Trips software. These are Catholic churches located in St. Louis City and the County of St. Louis. My searchable St. Louis map with church locations has been created using Microsoft Streets & Trips. You must have the Streets & Trips software installed on your computer in order to use my map. The church addresses have been extracted from different sources including, “Guide to St. Louis Catholic Archdiocesan Parish Records” by Christine Hughes and the St. Louis Catholic Archdiocese website. The map currently has more than 200 church locations plotted with street addresses for St. Louis City and the County of St. Louis. To view and use the map go to my website www.davernon.name <http://www.davernon.name/> , select the link for the “Maps Page”, then the link for “Searchable St. Louis Churches Map”. You will then be asked if you want to Open or Save the map. Selecting Open will open the map and you can type in an address. The map will zoom to the address and display nearby church locations. If you select “Save” you will be prompted to save the map file to your computer’s disk drive. After you have had an opportunity to test the searchable map please send me feedback. There is an email link on the Home Page of my website or send me an email message at dvernon4@msn.com. Microsoft Streets & Trips has been included with the purchase of a new computer by some computer manufacturers. That is how I got my copy of the software. If your computer did not come with the Streets & Trips software you can purchase it for about $39.95. To find a retailer or on-line purchase do a Google search on “Microsoft Streets”. Thank you. 1. [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] Memories & Traditions of St Patrick day
    2. JAMES O BRASHER
    3. Hi Don and Bob: Obviously you two boys are fine Irishmen of the first order, your fond memories say that's so. I too have memories of some mighty fine St Pat's day get togethers. I also learned something very important at my first St Patrick's day party, and that was: "Never wear a white shirt to a party where they were serving Green Beer." This was something very important to know unless it was your intention to own various colors of shirts to wear to work in the coming weeks. T'was sad but true that white shirts never returned to their proper status after a most satisfying St Pats get together. And no one will ever tell you about this important piece of information until its too late, generally a wife.----Jim ----- Original Message ----- From: Don Spencer<mailto:dspencer@rollanet.org> To: Bob Doerr<mailto:bdoerr@msm.umr.edu> Cc: JAMES O BRASHER<mailto:jims505@msn.com> Sent: Sunday, March 18, 2007 8:55 AM Subject: Re: [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] St Patrick Hi Bob, and glad to meet you Jim. As you probably saw, Bob, I again was driving the GDI Fire Truck! In case you didn't notice it was not dry even though I was! Seems as though the beer and my meds don't mix - - - - #%@$<mailto:#%@$>! As for Alice, WHERE IN THE WORLD DID THAT COME FROM??? It is not Tradition by any stretch of the imagination! It had to have happened between 1955 and 197something. My son (ca1978 ) was the first to tell me of it. It was always a dried cowpie nestled in a bed of old straw in a box, that served as the blarney stone for knighting ceremonies. In my day this was done in Parker Hall Auditorium, remember the place? So Alice as far as I was concerned was a concoction of the then generation. The latter 60's, into the 80's decades did have a quite different group of students. Just out of KOREA and NAM, but I won't go there now. The means of traction during '48 - '52 was mixed "self propelled" and "drawn" even drought horses (plow horses to us rednecks!) and even then the advertising was prominent, but by placards not vehicles. As far as the beer is concerned, it's just hidden better! It's still there, as is Irish whiskey! I was at a Frat house just prior to the parade, and the beer was in the open on the frat property. On of the boys happened to be standing on the side walk by the parking lot and his brothers reminded him to get back on the Frat property! At least that's their interpretation of the public issue. As you know I have been in the last 4 or 5 parades with the Truck (which belongs to my Son,) and I think the enthusiasm is still there, but at a completely different level than we knew. One because my class was just behind all the WWII vets returning to school and they were a rougher breed of cat. The worst hazing was to throw the St. Pats Board into the Frisco Pond along with several other notable students. The geese were not heard or seen by me - - - - - probably because I had a very loud siren on the Truck! :-) Don Bob Doerr wrote: Hi, Jim, For the first time in many years, I attended the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Rolla. It was the 99th such. It was also a great disappointment. Things have changed. The weekend is not nearly as wild as in former times. Drinking in public is prevented by the police. Alice has been abandoned. You may ask, "What was Alice?" Alice was a tank of the most awfulest, stinky stuff imaginable, colored green. New Knights of St. Patrick were briefly immersed in the stuff. Fortunately for them, previously-installed Knights were ready with hoses to wash them of the worst of the stuff. But without Alice and without a vast amount of beer, the students lost their enthusiasm. Another factor is that, about 45 years ago, self-propelled floats were proscribed. Previously, the fraternities would acquire old vehicles for a few dollars, strip them to their frames, and build neat floats, with much action, on the frames. It was quite a challenge. Unfortunately, almost always one or two of the floats would 'conk out' and block the parade. Now, without a challenge, a few fraternities each throw together a crude float on a trailer and get a local business to tow the 'float' in the parade with a pickup truck. The business gets some publicity, if only from having their truck in the parade. But that expanded and now most of the 'floats' are merely advertising devices, unrelated to the University. The highlight of the parade was a flight of waterfowl migrating north high over Rolla; the local TV presentation of the parade did include a shot of the birds. The Budweiser Clydesdales added a touch of class, but remain mere advertising devices. There was an interesting item. Surely you have seen some of the huge multi-engine trucks used in competitive 'pulls'. Someone had a miniature with four Briggs & Stratton engines. I am unlikely to attend the centennial parade. But St. Patrick Church celebrated with a great corned beef and cabbage dinner, so the day was saved. The only thing I must be careful of and very vigilant about is; I must watch her carefully to see that she doesn't sneak a few pods of green chili into the pot. Their daug., Elizabeth was b/ 22 Jan. 1834 & d/ 21 Sept 1919. She m/ James M. Branson 5 Feb 1861. The rest is just guesswork & I'm not sure if James is the s/o Jacob or relative to him. Jacob was in the Rev. War. There was a write up abt. him in Osage Co. (though he didn't live there ), because of ties to Shockley's living there. Fran
