    1. Re: [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] Bethany Evangelical Church
    2. Bobbie, Just about ALL of the Catholic, Lutheran, Evangelical Lutheran and Evangelical Church records are on microfilm at the county library. That does include all of the churches you mentioned. I do St. Louis research for people for a reasonable fee and am familiar with all of these churches and am able to abstract the information for those church records written in German. In some of the earlier records, it gives the town of origin, which is usually exactly what most people want. Then, the films from those villages in Germany might be available to be ordered through the FHC. 3. Hello Jane, I researched my Grand parents marriage in St.Louis at the City Hall located on 12th and )Spruce) I think. If my memory serves me, I was on the main floor, and applied for it and then they sent me downstairs where the files were actually located. With the help of the personal who work there, we found them located in a very large sign in book, and then she took some info off that page, went and got a metal box and pulled out the original document. She let me touch the signature of my grandmother in the big book, and it is quite an emotional experience. Hope this answers your question. Rosalie, Naples Fl. 2. Do you mean Bethany UCC? They are on Bellefontaine Road. There is no Bethany Lutheran Church anymore. They closed a few years back. Does anyone have any ideas? ===== Bobbie, Go to _http://chi.lcms.org/_ (http://chi.lcms.org/) This is the web site for Concordia Historical Institute; Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. They have an extensive collection of microfilm and other types of archived material. You can search their site by going to "Collections" and then Search. I did this and just put in Bethany. The church you want is the 2nd choice. They don't have the records on microfilm so I suspect the church didn't have it done. I believe each church had to pay for their own microfilming so maybe they couldn't afford it or didn't want it considering the attitude of the woman you spoke to. However, there is a card file box and some other stuff there which might have some info. Their phone number is 314-505-7900. BTW, they have more than just Lutheran church records. They have records of churches which had their roots in Lutheranism. Most of those type microfilm records are also at the headquarters of the St. Louis County Library. Good luck. 2. The Family History Library Catalog has the Index and the certificates on microfilm. Also, try the IGI with the target name as there were many marriages extracted. If you need help in accessing the FHLC get back to me. The first name is necessary to do that type of search. Good luck, Ellen San Diego -----Original Message----- From: Preston B. 3. I found some thing in the Missouri Archives about St Louis. They may very well have some Lutheran Church information. Many groups have donated information to the State Archives. I recently did death certificates and printed them on line from 1910-1950 on much of my researched folks from St Louis. If you cannot find it in St Louis you can make specific research requests to the Missouri Archives on line or by mail. The Carondelet Historical Society was founded in 1967 by a group of Carondelet residents whose purpose was to preserve the rich heritage of Carondelet. There were 353 charter members. Our membership today is 358. In 1970 a large plaque was erected in Bellerive Park, overlooking the Mississippi River, describing the founding of Carondelet and important dates related to the growth of the community. Also, plaques have been placed on 45 sites of historic significance, including businesses, churches and homes - each having its own unique place in Carondelet's heritage. Historical papers, books, furniture and many other items have been collected over the years. In February, 1980, plans to acquire headquarters for the society were initiated. The Family Care Center of Carondelet had purchased the Cook's Market complex in the 6300 block of Michigan Avenue and did not need the Des Peres School building (now the Cardondelet Historic Center). It was offered to the Society and the Susan Blow Foundation. In April, 1981, the building was purchased from the Family Care Center for $25,000. The purchase price was raised in a ten-week fund drive. Major renovation has been accomplished as funds became available. These included the opening of the front doors and windows, new furnaces and air conditioning, new roof, pointing and other projects. Our most recent, completed in March '97 is the remodeling of our Board and meeting rooms and remodeling of display areas (in progress). Susan E. Blow Kindergarten/Museum The Center is the site of the first continuous public school kindergarten founded by Susan Blow in September, 1873. Teachers are encouraged to bring their students to the kindergarten where volunteers will assist the children in re-creating some of the activities of these early kindergartners. There is no charge for classes of students to visit the kindergarten and museum. Cleveland High School Display After Cleveland High School closed in 1984, no provisions had been made to house or care for the many trophies, Beacons, historical items, etc. The Cleveland High School Staff-Alumni Association was formed to be the caretakers of these items. They are now on display on the second floor gallery of the Center and in the Library. Carondelet Memorabilia Other areas of the Center are given to the many mementos of the rich and varied history of Carondelet. Our Library has a variety of resources for genealogical study and historical research. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. Bob, I would be happy to work on whatever you can send me from St Louis. I have already looked in the work you have done in 1860 for my Mathias Boll gggrandfather. I have him in the 1860 Census in the 1st Ward, indexed as Toll, and I must admit this one doesn't look like an indexer error, but a census taker error. It is definitely a "T" as opposed to the way he wrote a "B" as in Baden (written on the same entry as where he was from). If you happen to run across him I'd love to see it. Occupation at Census time in June was brick molder, but I know that later he was a dairy man. His neighbors as listed in the Census are Georg Barthold, milk dealer (who is not in the directory either) and Lorentz Müller, milk dealer. Basilius Kohler, brick Molder was another of my gggrandfathers and in the 1860 Census he was living with Mathias Boll, his brother-in-law. Their grandchildren eventually married and became my grandparents. Next to them was Henry Scharinghaus who owned the brick yard where both Mathias and Basilius worked. I’d love to know where this was they all were living. Mathias bought property in 1865 that was on Pennsylvania between Pestalozzi and Rappahanock (Magnolia now). I had found Mathias in the 1865 Directory as a laborer living at the corner of 14th and Julia. Judy

    1. [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] Hoax and apology
    2. Carrie Maupin
    3. I want to apologize to all the lists for my apparent ignorance of this being a hoax. I've had several replies informing me of this and I appreciate being informed. I received this from my nephew who I know very well and I know he would not have sent it to me unless he also believed it was legitimate. I have written him back informing him and forwarding some of the emails I received to show him so he can be better informed in the future as well as I. I truely only informed the lists to warn anyone so that they wouldn't fall prey to it and harm their computers. Mine has gone down a couple of times in the past and I know how frustrating that is to lose all info. That's why I believe so strongly in hard copies as well. But I do apologize to everyone and in the future, I'll know how to check to be sure, but I will refrain from putting anything like this on the lists. It was not my intention to offend anyone-rather, only to protect you. Thanks, Carrie ____________________________________________________________________________________Ready for the edge of your seat? Check out tonight's top picks on Yahoo! TV. http://tv.yahoo.com/
