    1. [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] miniature golf course?
    2. Peggy Kruse
    3. I've been trying to remember the name of a miniature golf course we went to several times when I was a kid.?? I think it was out Manchester -- or somewhere west.? We lived in north St. Louis and it seemed like a long way out there.? It was unique because it was built into a wooded area and was much more rustic than other miniature courses.?? It occurred to me someone on this list might know of it -- and whether it might still exist? Thanks, Peggy Kruse Florissant ________________________________________________________________________ AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at AOL.com.

    1. [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] Note about St. Alphonsus "Rock" Church
    2. FYI - To everyone who may be planning to come to St. Louis in the near future and attending the St. Alphonsus "Rock" Church - Please see the _www.stltoday.com_ (http://www.stltoday.com) articles about the recent fire at this church. Unfortunately, this church's roof and part of it's interior was destroyed by fire the other day probably caused by a lightening strike. The officials say it will be a year before the restoration is complete but the 135 year-old historic church will be rebuilt. Of course, there are other churches nearby that you can attend instead and this church will be holding masses in their gymnasium but the main building will not be open for at least 1 year. 2. Dear Kathy, I'm one of those "background people" that you don't know --but we know you! You have been so gracious in assisting us with your time and knowledge; with your smiling and helpful attitude when attending events at the library. You and Tom are Genealogy Celebrities in my book, along with a few others at county library and historical society, and just from reading the other emails on the List, it appears that it is unanimous. Good Luck! You will be missed. 1. Re: [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] Name changes
    2. I have 2 stories and one possible answer to the question of name changes. I am a travel agent and a client needed his passport to travel. He was concerned about his wife being a Canadian citizen and making sure her papers were correct. When he went to get his birth certificate, he found his name to be completely different. He was Everett Wayne and he had been going by Walter which was the name on his baptismal certificate. He had to get a new drivers license, apply for the passport, travel and when he returned he somehow got it changed back to Walter. Now the other one, my son and his girlfriend had a baby together. At the time I was doing genealogy and had found out that my son's surname had been mispelled for many years by the old priests in Louisiana. So, my son decided to give his son the correct name. His name was actually "Malorin" but the original spelling was "Mulherin". Now this little boy has the name Mulherin and we would like to get it changed back to "Malorin". I was told I had to go through a lawyer and do it through the county court. If this is true, and the system has not changed then you should be able to find the name changes at the county court where they either lived or were born. I suppose?? Any answers to this? 3. The same process of having witnesses and documents as proof still are required. If nothing is proven, a judge has to rule on the change. You would still contact the Bureau of Vital Records http://www.dhss.mo.gov/BirthAndDeathRecords/correcting.html My late maternal grandmother was a witness to several birth certificates and name changes as the family was mostly birthed at home by her and my g-grandmothers. And with the new driver's license requirements to prove identity, I have a few cousins who are 50+ years and having to go through the process now and without any living witnesses. :) LaDonna

    1. Re: [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] name change
    2. When my mother and her sister were born, 1922 and 1929 respectively, the doctor asked their mother what she was going to name them - she told him and he replied he didn't care for those names and was going to our down what he wanted on their birth certificates - she thought he was joking - in 1964 my mom went to get her birth certificate when my dad went on disability. The doctor wasn't kidding. Her name and my aunt's were not what they had used all those years - remember this was a time when u didn't need birth certificates to get into school or get a driver's license. She had to get affavadivts signed by two people who knew her as the name she had always used and present her SS card and D/L as proof. The birth certificates were amended. Not sure it would be that simple today. My oldest aunt had no birth certificate in 1914. She had to get two affadvaits from someone who was around her family at the time of her birth to prove her date and name, as well as her baptismal certificate.
