Dear Sue, I didn't have any trouble accessing censuses that I had looked at before. Is it one specific page that you cannot get? I have been trying to access one page in the 1930 census for St. Louis County, MO since January 18, 2003. The following is what I get from Ancestry.com whenever I ask about accessing that particular page. "Thank you for your email. Thank you for bringing this Census Image Online issue to our attention. Our programmers are aware of the situation in the 1930 Census with St. Louis City and St. Louis County in Missouri and they will correct it as soon as they are able. In order to resolve many of these issues it requires research, individual rescanning, and other time consuming processes. For this reason the resolution may take longer than that of other website errors. Thank you for your patience." This is pretty much what they have been saying for the past 6+ months. In the mean time, they have changed the index for the 1930 census (which I happen to like) but have not fixed the actual census problems Otherwise, some of the censuses are unavailable for a brief period because Ancestry is doing something. Email Ancestry.com with your problem. Georgia "S. Hamilton" wrote: > I have been trying for almost 2 days to log onto Ancestry.Com. I get a message saying the page is not available. Georgia and List, I can get to the page but I am unable to log on. I get the message, "Page cannot be displayed." I have checked with my internet service and they see no problems at my end. I will contact Ancestry. Thanks to all who responded. It was the only way for me to know if the problem is universal. Georgia, Amen !!!! I've been going back and forth with Ancestry on the 1930 Images - need to get Missouri - Taney County - the page loads, but it remains blurry. Ancestry sent me the same email - it hasn't been fixed in 2 months. I do appreciate the fact that the 1930 is indexed, but if you cannot use it - big deal. I have been trying for almost 2 days to log onto Ancestry.Com. I get a message saying the page is not available. Is anyone else having trouble? Thanks Sue
I don't remember when the Wooden Street cars retired, but if I remember correctly the reason people were not electrocuted is because the wires were above the cars and did not go to the rails. You could stand on the rails and not be hurt. There was no third rail like subways. Also on some of the older lines the cars did not turn around, when the car reached the end of the line the motorman stopped the car and then walked to the back and that became the front of the car and he resumed his route. Some of the old cars used to have a coal stove in them in the winter for heat. Lew
Does anyone know what year the last wooden street car was retired in St Louis? Also why were they allowed to run when the intersection of Broadway and Chouteau was flooded if they were run by electricity? Why weren't the passengers electrocuted and killed? Even though the motorman was running the car in front, why was the foot gong left in the back and he still had a gong in front?----Jim

Found this site for records of St. Paul's Evangelical Church Creve Coeur, St. Louis County, Missouri. Hopefully it will help someone. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lindainmo/st_pauls/index.html Kim Byerly
A couple of things to keep in mind: 1. Not all genealogy software works the same way. You need to know what software and version you have because what works for one may not work for another (found this out the hard way!) 2. Make sure to mark as private with your privacy flag option any living people before you do the export 3. Mark the names you want to export if it is only part of your file. 4. I find it safer to make a copy and then delete the names I don't want if I am sending more than deleting. I hope this helps! I have only done a GEDCOM SPLIT one time - and I think I did it the same way as the other email - but it's more time consuming. You have to pick and choose who you want in it. I do recall it was a pain, and seriously thought about opening smaller files for future reference. You could always do the Genealogy Report (VIEW, GENEALOGY REPORT), then CONTENTS and # OF GENERATIONS. This can be files as a .pdf (you know, those cute Adobe commercials?). Click FILE, then EXPORT TO PDF. Name your file, and then save it as a .pdf. Of course, you have to have Adobe to open it. I suggest you download that program if you don't have it. With the new FTW, it's indispensible! I've done a GEDCOM every month to update my Rootsweb pages. This is how I do it. Open the file I want Go to FILE drop-down menu click on COPY/EXPORT Make sure your SAVE IN file reads FTW Create a new name for your GEDCOM Click on your drop-down menu in the SAVE AS TYPE and change it to GED When I update, I use names that will help me figure out which one I want to use. For instance, I will use Farrand Family Aug Update in a couple of weeks to update Rootsweb. This helps me because I use other Farrand names when sharing files with other researchers. This works for me. If this isn't helpful, let me know. I have the original FAQs book from 1996 when I bought the original FTW. R. Emmett: Perhaps you could use this U.S. info. Sounds like your grandmother lived a long and useful life. Good luck Gary In 1903 the average life expectancy in the US was forty-seven (47). Only 14 Percent of the homes in the US had a bathtub. Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. There were only 8,000 cars in the US and only 144 miles of paved roads. The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year. A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year. More than 95 percent of all births in the US took place at home. Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee cost fifteen cents a pound. Most women only washed their hair once a month and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school and eighteen percent of households in the US had at least one full-time servant or domestic. ----- Original Message ----- From: "McAuliffe, R.
