    3. Have you tried contacting the Bridgeton City Hall? I would think they may have a record of a cemetery being closed and bodies being moved. It is worth a phone call. http://www.bridgetonmo.com/index.htm Here is information on the cemetery. It is still there. http://www.stlcathcem.com/stmary_history.aspx I did a search on the Catholic burial site for Boxdofer and Boxdoefer but nothing came back. It is still worth a try to contact them cemetery directly. Here is info on another cemetery across from St. Mary's. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/mo/county/stlouis/bmp-cem.htm And a listing of cemeteries in the St. Louis area http://www.stlgs.org/cem/cemloc-ac.shtml ----- Original Message ----- From: "RITA BROEKER" <gardenwench4@msn.com> To: <MO-STLOUIS-METRO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, August 09, 2003 10:09 PM Subject: [StL-Metro] Boxdoefer- early 40's > Hello all, > > I am looking for a Boxdoefer Genevive I think was her name. 1. RE: [StL-Metro] Store Owners List
    2. Search the City Directories for that time period by name of the person. If they did indeed own a store, it will be mentioned. In 1890 Directory John Moran was listed as Hogan & Moran at North Market, south-east corner Garrison avenue, residence 2424 Garrison. 3. Hello all, I am looking for a Boxdoefer Genevive I think was her name. Her husband was Gottlieb Boxdoefer. I think the wife died early 40's and was buried at St. Mary's in Bridgeton. But wasn't that cemetery moved for the hiway or metro-link. If anyone finds any clues I would really be grateful. I am trying to find her burial site for a very old man who was her grandson, and he really wants to find her. He claims she saved his life as a very young boy, as he blew most of one hand off with a blasting cap. She made a tourniquet and kept him from bleeding to death, while help arrived. Thanks Rita Broeker

    1. RE: [StL-Metro] 1860 Ward 3
    2. Keep trying in the city directories for several years. Have you been to the Irish in St. Louis webpage? Diane and I made a chart listing RC parishes by ethnicity, years founded, address and wards. There really weren't that many RC Irish churches in 1860. 1. Re: [StL-Metro] 1860 Ward 3
    2. Karen, Since you were unable to find the family you were looking for in the 1860 City Directory I'd try checking the directory again for people who are listed as near neighbors in the census. You may be able to pinpoint the right street or even the exact address if it was a multifamily dwelling. I'd also look for your family a few years before and a few years after the census in city directories. I've had family members missed during a certain year but where they are found living at the same address both the year before and the year after. It may also be possible to determine pretty closely when the family arrived or left St. Louis. Good luck and I hope you find them :) Tracy Lewis Anchorage, AK > Subj: [StL-Metro] 1860 Ward 3 > Date: 8/9/03 4:59:01 PM Alaskan Daylight Time > From: <A HREF="mailto:Karjac@aol.com">Karjac@aol.com</A> > > Is there any way to find out the address from a page of the 1860 Census > in St. Louis, Ward 3? 2. Is there any way to find out the address from a page of the 1860 Census in St. Louis, Ward 3? Is anyone familiar with this area? I am stuck trying to find info on Edward Goggin, a "laborer", wife Bridget bp Ireland and dau Mary (1) bp MO listed in the 3rd Ward. (Ancestry Image 196 of 261). I looked yesterday at the library in the 1860 City Directory with no luck. The 1860 Census was taken in July so maybe they were not in St. Louis when the Directory was printed. If this is the Mary I am looking for, the 1900 Census in Chicago says she was born Jan 1860 in MO. The 1870 and 1880 Census records shows the family in Chicago and another dau Johanna is listed as bp MO, two years younger than Mary. Bridget's mother was probably Ellen Kelley and she may have been with them at some time in MO. I tried finding them in a couple of Parish films but the reading was most difficult and I was just guessing at an Irish Catholic Parish for Ward 3. Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks. Karen Goggin

I have been told that my greatgrandfather and greatgrandmother, Thomas and Margaret Murphy owned a store in St. Louis the exact year is unsure but it have to have been from 1900-1920. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Kathleen

    3. Actually, the museum was here for many years prior to the earthquake panic and Iben Browning in 1990. Has a great Civil War display, along with Native American artifacts. The siege of New Madrid in April 1862 or 1863 (can't remember which without looking, right now) is covered in the display. Considered by some to be a minor issue of the Civil War, it was important in the control of the Mississippi River. We had national news people interviewing local news station broadcasters (for something to do) during the earthquake "scare". KSHE radio from St. Louis set up at a local bar to broadcast.
