Thank you to EVERYONE who replied about my "strange" Microsoft message. I do get the automatic updates which was why I wondered about this message. I received another one sometime ago and had deleted it although it didn't seem so strange. Also, it referred to a patch I had already done. Thanks again! Jean Tomorrow is another day.

Just wanted to let everyone know that some of the spam protection software is causing problems with members getting mail from rootsweb. If you get unsubbed from the list it is likely because your mail is bouncing back to the server. I am seeing problems with comcast, verizon, and bellatlantic tonight. I have tried to contact the members directly but if you know of someone who has been unsubbed and not by their wishes, please let them know this is most likely due to the anti-spam filters many members are activating. If yours allows you to list addresses that are OK, please make sure to list MO-STLOUIS-METRO as an OK address. Also, please do not post virus messages. If you receive mail that looks like it is coming from rootsweb with a virus, the message did not come from rootsweb but from someone's infected computer that has the list in its address book. I will let you know that there is a virus masquerading as a message from Microsoft. It is not how Microsoft communicates so if you get one delete it. I have had several members ask about that behind the scenes. Rootsweb has some really good help tools for members... Go to: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ for information on infected emails and spam, for information on ISP's that are having trouble receiving mail, and for general help. Laura
For all those who helped and asked me to report on my search, here are the results. I found my Hill-Billy, skinny dipping buddy in Texas. He did not shoot a sheriff but does have a story. Thanks everyone for helping.----Jim
Has anyone else received a message from Microsoft that says: "Dear friend , use this Internet Explorer patch now! There are dangerous virus in the Internet now! More than 500.000 already infected!" It has an attachment named patche.exe. I was wondering if it is a spam/virus or if it is legit?? Thanks. Jean Tomorrow is another day.
