PATTERSON, VICTOR; Parents, John Bonapart(e) Patterson and Louise KERN, Lived only in St. Louis area. Victor is named after a street. It seems the midwife scared the parents into believing that since he was not named by 7 months that the devil would get his unsaved soul. He was a very sickly child with having pneumonia 13 times before becoming a teenager. His father walked around the block and told the mother to choose between Victor and Sidney. His father JOHN may have had a name change. Family history says that he changed his name when a murder was committed in a rooming house and 2 men had very similar names. It is not certain what roll he played in this murder or if it is true. Nor is it certain what the name was or if it really was changed. Denise

Hi, Sue, I am skipping around the alphabet so we have not done F-M yet. We have done A-E, then V-Z and are now doing N-P. Yes, you can submit for any of these alphabet letters to catch up with the group. You can always check past emails by going to the archives located at: http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=MO-STLOUIS-METRO the searchable version or http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=MO-STLOUIS-METRO the date version. Laura PS: We will get all the letters in before December. ----- Original Message ----- From: "S. Just wanted to let you know that there are some really neat special message boards at rootsweb.com http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.occupations this link takes you to a list of message boards by occupation. These include some really interesting ones like Buffalo Hunters and several Railroad related ones. I administer the new one for Glass and Crystal Makers. There is even a link there for Genealogy Certification if anyone is interested in pursuing that. I am surprised only one listing is on the Brewery workers site. Maybe no one from our town has posted there yet! http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics this link takes you to lots of special topics. There is Crime, Disasters, Adoptions, Genealogy Software (a good place to ask those questions instead of this list), Reunion announcements (that's a neat idea!), Orphans and Orphanages, Royalty and Nobility, Census and all kinds of other things as well. Found Family Heirlooms has 40,200 postings. Lots of "found" stuff and "lost" stuff out there! You might want to check these out. You may find a lead here to that elusive ancestor! Laura
In case you are just joining us, we are doing a controlled roll call by listing surnames from certain parts of the alphabet. We have done A, B, C. D. E...V, W, X, Y, Z and now lets do N, O, P, Q (that's over half of the alphabet with this series...we will do the whole thing so everyone has a chance to get help with their relative search. I really only have Penny / Pennie for this series. And I have a relative coming to visit for a week from this side of the family. She is from Australia and we are related via Scottish ancestry. She is coming here after spending time in Scotland researching the family. I have everyone from the St. Louis area for this family. I also belong to an adhoc group of Penny / Penney / Pennie researchers. There were some of these folks who fought in the Revolutionary War. Some came from England, some from Scotland, some from Ireland, and mine came from Scotland via Canada. So if any of you are research these names let me know. I have a Penny (no matter how it is spelled) data base for the Aberdeenshire area of Scotland (NE part). By the way, has anyone found some relatives doing this? If you have let us know! Hope some of you are finding something of interest this way. Laura

This is a link to counties I was researching. You can maybe pilfer the address to find Caldwell County? The other link I sent you was pretty vague, so I went back to one I'd found, starting out much like you are now ... http://digital.library.umsystem.edu/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=umlib&idno=umlr000006 Lisa Farrand Kemp "Farrand Families of Missouri and Illinois" http://pookie-baby.tripod.com/Farrand2000/index.html Rootsweb Posting http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=speshelkay ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charlcy" <charlcy@trilobyte.net> To: <MO-STLOUIS-METRO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 06, 2003 10:54 AM Subject: [StL-Metro] Wanting Information on Caldwell Co., List, I am in need of help. Here's some info I found for ya... Caldwell County Organized December 29, 1836, from Ray County and named for John Caldwell, Indian scout. Alexander Doniphan is credited with naming Caldwell County in honor of an Indian fighter whom his father, Joseph Doniphan, had known in Kentucky. According to Floyd C. Shoemaker, Doniphan probably referred to Colonel John Caldwell, the famous soldier for whom Caldwell County, Kentucky was named. Mathew Caldwell has also been cited as the man for whom the Missouri County was named. You could also try this link at the University of MO http://digital.library.umsystem.edu/ I found the History of Camden CO there.
